Yes. Pregnant and Unemployed is pausing for station identification. There’s been some issues with Wordpress and a patch I didn’t do in time and until I dig in and find all the corruption (won’t take long, just not high enough priority) it will not be updated. When it does get fixed, I’m also in the process of rethinking the URL since so many of you have insisted I should not refer to myself as “Unemployed” but “Freelancing.” And you have a point. And I hope not to be pregnant forever. AND - If I’m going to make a change it’s better now than after I have 6 months worth of content. SO - while the site idea is still there - this incarnation needs some repair.
UNTIL THEN…you will have to suffer through my Stay-At-Home Mom posts here. I’m sorry for those of you who find this boring. For those of you who find it awesome, well, it’s my gift for you!
We’ve handmade Valentine’s Day cards this year. This is a new hobby of mine that I picked up soon after NikkiZ was born after another blogger sent me the most gorgeous Christmas Card ever. I still display it, I love it so much. I made her send me detailed instructions about beginning the hobby and two years later, mine still don’t look as good as hers.
BUT - now that I’m unemployed freelancing, I’m determined to work on the skills more. I made the basic cards and NikkiZ colored in all of them. I tried my best to use photos in every one of them. I wanted them to all be like the one on the right, with the heart-shaped framing, but I’m either inept or that’s REALLY HARD. I kept cutting out the wrong size hearts and covering up heads or eyes. So - I did several like the one on the left. It required less cursing.
I can not believe I just wrote a post about a craft I did. I mean - it’s no flawless quilt, but it’s impressive by my own standards!

very nice!
It’s better than the stuff I make! Mine looks like a 2nd grader made it. I make one, send it to my mom; she has to love it!
Reading about your experiences at home is like traveling back in time a couple years when I was doing the same thing. I miss it, but at the same time I’m soooo glad to be back in an office job. Enjoy it as long as you can!
Awww.
I also made my own valentines this year. Mostly because I’m broke from buying all the gifts. And since I’m a scrapbooker I have all the materials on hand already.
both designs are awesome. well done!
p.s. you know we’re more than happy to read anything you feel like writing about…
That is a great idea!! I have not a creative bone in my body and I won’t even try!! I don’t have the nerve.
hey, for hearts (and other shapes!) that don’t cut heads and eyes off, you can buy templates at Michael’s and then trace them onto the picture with a pencil. or, if you’re cutting out a smaller shape, they sometimes make punches that will do it all for you (also sold at Michael’s). if you slide the picture in so it’s “backwards” or turn the punch upside down, you can see exactly where you’re punching! scrapbookers use these all the time, and it’s why their scrapbooks always have those pictures cut out in shapes that look perfect.
btw, LOVE both cards!
They both look great!
Cropping heart-shaped photos IS really hard! I got a heart cutting template when I was scrapbooking my wedding photos, and I only got to use it maybe once or twice in the whole album. It’s super hard to find a picture that will work well in a heart-shape without cutting heads or other important details off.
Your cards are gorgeous!
Zoot,
I have a URL that I don’t use any longer if you’d like it. http://www.pregnancybabyguide.com. I was using it to test out Google AdSense for revenue, but it never took off. I was too busy being pregnant and having a baby of course. But, I’d be happy to hand over the last 3 months of the domain if you’d like it.
these are beautiful. you certainly rock the gluestick. i took the easy way out this year and got a pack of valentines to send out. we’ll still do a couple of crafty valentine things, but now the pressure is off…
