Grab Your Backpack! Let’s Go!

We’ve had two missions today: 1) Getting NikkiZ’s room empty and ready for painting and 2) Pack and prepare for our trip to Tennessee. As of this moment – we have accomplished both things with an amazing about of hysterics and entertainment.

NikkiZ thinks her newly emptied room is surpassed in hilarity only by her Dora bed now being placed next to our bed in our bedroom. She has rotated between running around her empty room screaming and listening to her echo – to sitting on her bed in our bedroom and watching TV while exclaiming, “I’m in my bed in Mommy’s room!”

It’s amazing how entertaining this is to her.

She also found the whole “packing” exercise to be quite fun. She gets to use her Dora suitcase for the first time and she packed her own clothes, shoes, socks, and oatmeal.

Yes, oatmeal.

I mentioned bringing a few snacks for the road and she insisted we also bring her oatmeal so she can eat it for breakfast while we’re at my parent’s houses. She even opened the box and removed enough packets for the weekend. Then she packed them tightly in with her clothes and diapers. We zipped up her suitcase and put it by the door and I’ve never seen such a look of accomplishment on such a small face. It was like she was thinking: There. Now I’m ready for anything.

It’s funny how you can sign a kid up for sports and classes, take them to movies or concerts, help them make crafts and plant gardens. All of these things we do as a parent to stimulate and educate our children. And then they go and find the mundane tasks like moving furniture and packing bags to me the most amazing thing on the planet.

They do this to remind us that we’re only as sane as they’ll let us be.

Nice smile, kid.
I’m sure this setup will do wonders for our love life.

Can I please send my kids to sleep in your room, too?

That would do wonders for MY love life, I’m tellin’ ya.

I like that you didn’t fix your bed before you took this picture. That’s what my bedroom looks like. (Well, minus the toddler & Dora bed.) :)

Love the Febreze in AndyZ’s bassinet…between that and the rumpled bedding? It’s like my house. (Though we have 100% less bassinet of course)

Sometimes it is the simple things that make things. I love that she packed oatmeal.

just wait until andyz is filling up that bassinet…then your love lilfe will really be screwed. at least until the baby-lust sets in again.

  6. Liv says:

You have a rumpled bed, lotion and a box of tissues on the nightstand. Honey, your lovelife is great.

That is the coolest bed ever.

    Such a cute photo!

(I have to laugh because if I had taken this photo, my wife would have made me make the bed first before I showed it to the internet. And, no, we don’t make our bed any other time.)

How’s the toddler bed thing going? I just bought my daughter hers on Saturday, and she’s in her second (struggling) night in there tonight. She just wants to get up and come see me! Either that, or she wants to pat the pillow next to her and say “night night mama,” which is so darn cute, but arg!
I have caved a couple of times. I did the IKEA thing, so she has a futon-style 63″ mattress instead of reusing the crib-mattress. I can’t stay I haven’t spent some time in her bed already.
It’s actually really handy, since if I’m at the end of my rope, I can always trap her in the crib again. She’s very proud of the big girl bed though!

What were you doing? Torturing her? :-)

She has a peculiar look on her face! And why make a bed when you’re going to get right back into it anyway, right? :0)

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
