Solidly On the “After” End of This Project
Category: 101 in 1001, Homeowners |

Well. NikkiZ’s room is painted and she is currently sleeping in her bed in the room. I’m so happy this is essentially over that I could just about cry. The rest of the house is still in disarray as it had kinda gotten chaotic over the last few weeks, but the furniture that belongs in her room is all there and in the right place. Nothing really on the walls yet and AndyZ’s side isn’t done (crib has to be reassembled and a new crib mattress needs to be purchased) but for all practical purposes? We’re done. The remaining tasks are minor.

Of course - I’ll wait and do the official Before/After photos when those minor tasks are completed - but for now: The current home of NikkiZ and future home of AndyZ. Pay Special Attention To The Curtains. I made them myself and crossed my first item off of my list of 101 things in 1001 days.

Towards NikkiZ's half of the room

From the middle toward AndyZ's side

THE CURTAINS. Amen.

My oldest had that very same Little Tikes washer/dryer!! We used that thing for at least my first 3 kids. Gotta love something that takes that much use.

The room looks great. I think if we decide to settle down in Huntsville in a couple of years, I’ll *let* you come help me decorate. :)

Job well done. This weekend I managed to whine and sleep a lot. Oh, and whine about sleep, too. There’s always that.

    Hi Zoot-

Longtime reader and new blogger. I love the new room for NickiZ and AndyZ! My 3 kids have all swapped rooms recently and it’s utter chaos (and add a kitchen remodel to boot!) here. I can’t wait to get just one room under control.

The room looks great, and the curtains are awesome! That’s a very good sewing job for a first-timer! You should be proud & Mr. Z should either be impressed or do it himself.

  19. Shawna Says:

    Nice curtains!

And I applaud you for putting the two youngest in the same room, by the way. I always thought it was a good idea for kids to share a room while they’re young and I think most kids prefer it too, but I’ve been questioning myself when I get aghast reactions to the idea of a boy and a girl sharing a room. I certainly don’t agree with people that think babies or children “need their own rooms”, though I do concede that it’s probably better for teenagers to have more private space.

It’s a moot point in this house, where we have an ample number of smallish rooms so it’d be hard to justify leaving a room empty and cramming the kids in together, but I’m keeping it in mind for our next place.

I should’ve read this post before commenting like an idiot on your Flickr photos asking about the curtains.

    Duh.

Anyway. YAY! They’re awesome! Nice work.

  25. Erin Says:

Love it! Nice job on the curtains. I’m going to have to take lessons from YOU when I move into my new house in a couple of months. Let’s just say the budget doesn’t include window treatments!
That room looks so much bigger than it did in the “before” pics. Yay for organization, and well done!

  26. Grandmere Says:

  28. Stefanie Says:

Wow!! Those curtains look great! I’m in need of some curtains for my new house - you think you could make some for me too!!! :D

Way to go on crossing off your first item!

  29. Zandria Says:

I am seriously impressed with the curtain-sewing! I made a skirt…and a JUMPER…back when I was like 10 or 12. It was a sewing class I took through our local 4-H office. But I never made anything completely on my own, and I’ve never sewn anything since then. I even get my mom to sew buttons back on my shirt if they fall off! (I COULD do it, but she does it so much FASTER…)
