Placenta Brain
Category: Pregnant | 15 Comments »

I’ve often complained about placenta brain. The state of mind that causes a pregnant woman to be forgetful and airheaded. Or in my case – more so than usual. I’ve been blaming every stupid thing I’ve done/said the last 32 weeks on placenta brain. Of course – my family has no idea if this is a Zoot Condition or a Pregnancy Condition. I blame so much on the pregnancy they’ve started assuming I’m making at least half of it up. I mean – what’s their problem? Do they not think gestation could be to blame for my sudden infatuation with Hannah Montana? Jeez. Give a girl a break.

This morning, however, placenta brain caused a completely different issue. It woke me up at 2:30am with thoughts of, “Oh Shit. I’m having a baby in 8 weeks. I’M NOT READY.” I mean – the crib is set up and the newborn sleepers are clean. But emotionally? Mentally? I’m not at all ready. I was worrying about NikkiZ’s adjustment and my upcoming lack of sleep. I was worried about whether or not I’ll lose the weight in time for my brother’s wedding and when I’ll be able to pick up my daughter again. I started wondering if I should refresh my memory about labor in case I actually go before my c-section or if I’ll be as lucky with nursing going as well as it did with NikkiZ.

ALL OF THESE THOUGHTS AT 2:30am.

Let’s just say today is going to be a long day. Let’s hope Miley Cyrus can get me through it.

Well, those are pretty different than the thoughts that keep ME up at night! You’re gonna be so great with Andy, though, seriously! I mean, you were so worried about having a girl to deal with with Nikki, and you’ve done *amazingly* (and her outfits are adorable!) and why, this son thing is just old hat ;-) And you have MrZ this time around. And Nikki will adjust because she knows you all love her madly, and that’s the most important thing :-) (Do you like how I pretend I know what I’m talking about? Uh, sorry bout that.) And the weight? You can do it! You’ve done it before! You are teh awesome.
    The end. :P

You are one amazing mom and will be totally fine with raising three children. You were meant to do this, and will be totally fine!! Those kids are some really lucky kids to have you. I can’t believe it seems to have gone by sooooo fast this time!!

I sympathize with you on the 2:30 freak-out, I’ve had a few of them in the past few weeks myself. The fact that my c-section is scheduled 25 days from today [not that I'm counting down or anything...but if you want the hours/minutes left conversion, I've got it ready] doesn’t help much either.
Everyone keeps assuring me that it will all work out wonderfully, though…so I’m trusting that it will, for both of us! :)

I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to give both the baby and my toddler enough attention. You’ll get through it – promise!!

Aw, Zoot. You are such an awesome mom, I can’t imagine anything could change that!!!

Hahaha! Don’t you just love the stuff that pops into the brains of moms at 2:30 in the morning! I did that the other day, woke up at 1:44 am – totally wide awake. I actually had to write down the list of crap that was on my brain before I could go back to sleep.

And just so you know, according to my son, Miley Cyrus can get you through anything, because she is “pretty” and “is the bestest singer ever.”

    :-)

    Dude,

    Go to http://www.flor.com/service/flor/index.html

Very cool! I didn’t know where to get your e-mail address, so I hope you don’t mind that I snuck that into your comments.

Also? You’ll rock the Zs socks!!! You? Not ready for mothering? Never!

  8. Katy Says:

Oh, I had that a lot. Don’t worry about it. Everything will be fine.

I believe it is a real pregnancy symptom. I think this is when babies steal parts of their mom’s brain via osmosis :)

I think you’ll be a terrific mom – yet again. You already are to 2 beautiful kids. Granted, NikkiZ and AndyZ are closer in age so it might be a bit tougher, but I think NikkiZ will step up and help mommy by being a big sister. I’ve got Beans (same age as NikkiZ) handing me wipes and diapers, etc.

Oh and huge PLUS for LilZ…I’m sure LilZ will love the fact that NikkiZ will leave him alone to spend more time w/AndyZ.

You’re going to do great! Of course that may not get rid of the worries, but I hope it helps.

Also, I seem to enjoy watching Hannah Montana too. At least you have kids in the house. I just stumbled upon the Disney Channel and kept right on watching!

  12. Danielle Says:

My sister-in-law had two children eighteen months apart and Eamon got plenty of attention and picking-up from his mom even when Nora was pretty brand-new. I wouldn’t worry.

And go right on enjoying the Hannah Montana! I worked backstage at one of her concerts and it was a blast.

  13. Jules Says:

OMG every time I was pregnant I became a complete airhead and I forgot everything! That has to be a pregnancy thing.

As for the middle of the night panic I so remember it. It’s scary to think about but you’ll okay.

    8 weeks! Wow.

I knew we would be great friends if we didn’t live a state apart. And now I have proof.

I LOVE HANNAH MONTANA. Way too much. I *might* also possibly, sorta have the teensiest crush on Billy Ray Cyrus. Jeebus, he is hot. It is a good thing I am not pregnant yet. I don’t know if I could survive the dreams. Did anyone else have those? I had “placenta brain” BOTH times. But the dreams were a real lulu.

I forgot to mention that my children are both boys. And they are four and two.

Don’t get me wrong, they love her too. But would generally rather watch Star Wars.
