Turning Her Attention To Other Things

Flower Child

We did a lot of fun stuff today, stuff you’ll see pictures of eventually. But the BIG outing of the day was a trip down the Greenway. NikkiZ really wanted to find some frogs. I have no idea why, because we’ve never seen frogs at the Greenway before, but today she had it in her head. We were going to find frogs. And ducks. Now, the ducks would be easy because they’re all over the place, but frogs? I just kept my fingers crossed that Kermit would find us somewhere along the way.

He didn’t. Damn him. Luckily, we saw tadpoles and turtles and a few ducks so I think it worked out in the end. But how much does it suck when you can’t just FIND A DAMN FROG ALREADY. She was so excited about the prospect, and I was worried it would break her fragile little spirit to leave without seeing one.

So – I distracted her with a stop by the park. Five trips down the slide and she completely forgot about the damn frogs. (Just WAIT until you see the slide pictures. They’re AWESOME.) If only I could just as easily distract my son from wanting a better cell phone. I think he’s too old for the slide to be that powerful. Maybe the swings?

First? No way! Anyway, moving on…

My oldest is 11, going on 12 soon. I keep looking to see how you handle LilZ (shouldn’t he be NotsoLilZ now?) for advice on what I should be doing. My son just got a cell phone this fall and he’s also doing the whole “I need a better cell phone” thing. He doesn’t get much symphany from me! (although I do love my Blackberry)

    Well, I like the swings and I’m 24 ;)

The swings are always a good bet.

Well… where there’s tadpoles, there are froggies. Perhaps next time! Glad you enjoyed the day though.

There is nothing fragile about that spirit! She is one powerful little thing!

‘…she had it in her head.’ Oh, that phrase sent chills down my spine. I felt it in my bones. My two are the exact same way. When they get something in their heads there is no stopping them.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
