Hump Day. Without the Humping.

Remember how two days ago I was all, “6 weeks and then some!” Well, now I can officially say, “5 weeks from today.”

I had a long talk with Dr. SoNice that actually didn’t last that long. He was leaning toward a c-section for me and giving me his thoughts on it but I interrupted him and said, “Um. I don’t really need convincing. Let’s do it.” It was how I had been leaning too and after all of your amazing success stories and advice of, “GO WITH YOUR GUT!” I decided to just follow the instincts that had me say c-section in the beginning. He told me, “We’ll call you later today or tomorrow with a tentative day.”

I kinda assumed that met one of his nurses would call. But – guess what! He called me! It was so weird – like I was talking to some celebrity on the phone. I just didn’t realize he would have the time to make such a silly phone call and I was all flustered while talking to him.

(Yes. I’m weird. I know.)

He scheduled me (tentatively) for May 21st at noon. That’s five weeks from today. Mark your calendars. And I’m looking for volunteers to sneak me in a few beers while I’m in the hospital. My husband’s all, “It’s not good for you or the baby! You’ll be nursing! And on morphine!” Whatever. He’s so boring.

Dude, beer is VERY good for both you and the baby. It promotes milk production, you know! (At least that’s what I used to always tell myself.)

    Just five weeks–that’s exciting!

  2. Texxla Says:

My mother gave birth to my sister in Brussels in 1976. They have her warm dark beer in the hospital to stimulate milk production. True story. Enjoy a frothy one!

  3. Texxla Says:

should say they GAVE her…..its early, ugh and I proofed it!

  4. Mom24 Says:

My oldest was born May 22–it’s a wonderful time to have a baby. I bet you’ll be happy you went for the scheduled c-section. It will be a lot easier to coordinate things for your other 2 with knowing when it’s going to happen. Congrats!

PS–I know exactly what you mean about being on the phone with the doctor–I get exactly the same way. I feel like I lose 20 IQ points and can’t remember anything I wanted to ask, or most of what they said when I’m talking to my doctor on the phone!

Yay for May 21! One day before me so now I can obsessively check for updates on you rather than obsess about the next day for me!

    Yay for distractions!

    Calendar marked.

When I went to the doctor in the fall and he said he would call me with the test results, I thought his nurse would call. I was tongue tied when I picked up the phone and heard his voice.

It has to be nice to have a day in site!! My friend is having her baby on the 1st, scheduled C-section as well. Her knees and hips aren’t up to the pushing…..May is a very good month. My niece turns one as well!!

i cannot wait to see the first pictures.

Tell your Hubby that beer is wonderful for Mom’s after the birth of the baby. The beer will aid in milk production and help in come in much sooner and more plentiful. My Mom is an OR nurse and at her hospital they ask the new Mom’s who are planning on nursing to have a family member bring beer to the hospital to help. Just one or two will do the trick. By the time the beer is digested and “becomes” milk, the alcohol is gone anyways….

Heh, I felt like a giddy school girl talking to my OB on the phone when he called me with my c-section date back in March. I just knew it would be one of the nurses instead of him.
But, just a word of warning…I remember so vividly making the comment the day he called that my c-section date [April 29th] was a whole “6 and a 1/2 weeks away!”. I blinked and there are less than 2 weeks left. It will go by far too fast, I promise you that!

  11. Karl Says:

Another vote for beer, here. Definitely good for the nursing. My wife doesn’t even like beer (she’s more of a Black Russians kind of girl), but a beer now and then helped a lot, especially early on. Fortunately that was all a long time ago, so we pretty much stick to the Black Russians now…

  12. Jules Says:

I so wish I had known about the beer thing when my son was born!

  13. Fraulein N Says:

That’s so exciting, that you know the exact day. If I were down there I’d totally bring you some beer.

  14. Marilyn Says:

I’d totally sneak you in a beer. But then I packed booze in my hospital bag. Still, I only drank half a hard cider (split it with my husband) which really kinda disappoints me. Where was all the hard drinking I was looking forward to?? Anyhow. Congrats on a date! :)

This comment is unrelated to this post, but related to your recent Photoshop fun.

Wooo hoo! How exciting and your going to have a Gemini! We are talkative I warn you, but very nice. Guinness used to be recomended for pregant and nursing mothers in the UK as it has iron.

  17. M&Co. Says:

I don’t think it’s weird that you were flustered that the doctor called. When the BC was sick one time and vomiting and running a fever I called the nurse line with a panicked, “what do I do?” The doctor called me back himself and I was a little flustered.

  18. Heather Says:

Beer for boobs! W00t ;) That’s awesome. Obviously MrZ doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Sheesh.

  19. Cassie Says:

I was born on May 15, and while that has no effect whatsoever on you or the baby, I think it’s a great week to be born!!! YAY!

  20. WonderSpot Says:

Congrats! And I’m totally “weird” like that, too. I get very easily flustered and awkward. Meh. Who knows.

  21. kimblah Says:

isn’t guinness supposed to help with nursing? heh. congrats on setting the date- it will be here in the blink of an eye.

  22. bzmomma Says:

Wow, 5 weeks? Already? Will you be Live-Blogging like w/NikkiZ?

  23. Clancy Says:

Yay! Mine got moved up because I’ve progressed a little since last week, so it’s now April 22!

  24. Andy Says:

Beer is good for nursing, just not more than one…ok maybe two if you space them just right.

I had friends sneak me in champagne and a nurse walked in while I was enjoying it – I tried to hide it (yes, a glass of champagne – hard to do when you are in bed) but she just laughed and told me I deserved it more than ever.

Woo hoo for 5 weeks – the countdown is on!

  25. Erika Says:

I totally feel like I’m talking to a celeb on the phone when my doc calls me as well. And it’s like I become a complete idiot instead of the witty little thing that I consider myself to be! Everytime I hang up my heart is beating super fast and I’m thinking “what is WRONG with me”? My husband finds it hilarious, but I really don’t see the humor in it. I always promise myself to keep my cool in case he calls, but it never works. Ever.

  26. Pocklock Says:

If they can give morphine to nursing mom’s, how could a couple beers hurt? ;)

  27. Jem Says:

Yay, a date! I get the doctor thing. When my doctor remembers stuff about me, I feel so special. (That sounds dumb, but I mean remembers straight off without having to check notes!)

  28. Colleen Says:

    Wow! 5 weeks!
Does knowing the tentative date make you more nervous… or less? I go in for my next ob appointment on 5/2. I’m due in July… and I’m told that we can get my c-section on the schedule then for July. That’ll give me about 10 weeks from scheduling to delivery. I’m already thinking I don’t have enough time to finish preparing. We still have to get Zoe out of the nursery and into her “new big girl room”… and that room… it’s a disaster.
