I woke up at an unreasonable hour this morning thanks to a persistent allergy issue. And by “persistent” I mean “It’s been going on since the first day the temperature rose above 50 degrees.” I’m hoping the severity of my allergies this season is a symptom of my pregnancy and not some change in my tolerance level for pollen. If this happens again next year? I’m filing a complaint with whatever deity I can find.

I’ve been sleeping in the recliner next to our bed for a few weeks now, because it seems I have less of an issue if I’m upright. This allows me to get some sleep, but not quality sleep. So, I tend to wake up a bit earlier (3:45am) because GOD HATES ME.

So, I decided to tackle the kitchen with my “extra” time this morning. I’m slowly working my way around the house, cleaning that deep My-Parents-Are-Coming-To-Visit clean that my house only sees about twice a year. (Neither time being when my parents actually come to visit, by the way.) I did the bathrooms last weekend, scrubbing the showers with SOS pads for the first time since…um…we bought the house? Yeah. That’s probably (embarrassingly) right. Thursday I tackled my bedroom and vacuumed the baseboards for the first time…since we bought the house.

You know when I said I’m cleaning the kind of clean that my house only sees “twice a year?” Scratch that. Let’s change it to, “Never.”

So, today was the kitchen. I do clean that pretty deep a few times a year because our house has an open floor plan and the kitchen is almost the centerpiece of that. I scrubbed the fridge, the microwave, the floors and the coffee-maker (because every newborn wants their coffee brewed from a clean coffee-maker, you know). And it’s now only 7:06am. I am feeling quite accomplished. And I just want to document the extreme effort I’m going to in order to prepare this house for AndyZ’s arrival. So that, when he’s questioning whether or not I really love him when I take away his cell phone for bad grades, he’ll be able to look back and say, She cleaned the showers for me. She must love me.

Because it’s got to mean something, right? I’m definitely not doing this for my own health. I could live with dirty showers AND a dirty coffee-maker FOREVER. And I will, after this kid gets here.

Wow! I have never cleaned that deeply in my life–that’s embarrassing to say! Could you be nesting? I hope you get a good nap.

Oh dear….I was just going to bed when you were getting up. I so wouldn’t have the energy to clean even if I was waking up.

I am a long time reader and though I would chime in with my two cents about your allergies. Maybe someone has already mentioned this…but here goes. Buy honey that is made locally in your area. It should be raw, unfiltered, unstrained honey. You shouldn’t be able to see through it. And if its really good, you should still have propolis and honeycomb in it. Your local farmers market would be an ideal place to find it. And don’t be fooled by claims that it is organic honey as the farmers don’t have control over where the bees go. Hope that helps. Curly girls rock!!!

Dear, 3:45 is not “early” that is “middle of the night”. GAH.

Totally nesting. At 8.5 months, I was in a frenzy cleaning my kitchen, MOPPING the walls and cupboard doors. Because the baby might notice if they were not up to snuff. ;-)

I hear you on the allergies! I can’t sleep, can’t breathe, can’t do anything for longer than about 10 seconds without a tissue. I’m starting a new course today and I don’t want to be blowing my nose the whole time but it looks like I will be! I tried a saline rinse last night for the first time, and it didn’t do a damn thing. argh.

When you’re done with your house, please come to NY to do mine. My house has Never seen such cleanliness. :-)

I feel for you not being able to sleep. Over the last five days, I’ve slept about 3 hours.

You’re supposed to use SOS pads on the shower? did. not. know. that. We have awful hard water here. I’ve given up.

I was down on my hands and knees scrubbing my kitchen floor (around the area rug that keeps our toes from touching the cold, cold tile) last week. And the faces of the lower cabinets. I don’t do that but once a year, unless something spills.

You and your blogs totally crack me up! I stumbled upon your site while googling salty eyebrow. Google pointed me in the direction of the blog you wrote about running in a marathon and being salty like a potato chip afterward. Really, laugh out loud stuff! I’m serious, you are an inspiration! I love LOVE writing, blogging and reading and to see that you have done sooo much with it is wonderful! Good luck in your last few weeks of pregnancy. I have 2 children, my youngest is 17 months and I’m just beginning to get those of feelings of missing being pregnant. You know what I mean, when God tries to trick you! LOL Well, good luck and keep on bloggin!
