Rock-n-Roll
NikkiZ has a very STRONG opinion in music. Unfortunately, we haven’t quite figured it out yet. All we know is that there are some songs she likes, and she calls those “Rock-n-Roll” and usually asks for them to be LOUD. But then there are other songs she does not like to which she’ll repeat over and over and over again, “I wanna listen to Rock-n-Roll!”
However, her definition of “Rock-n-Roll” is kinda loose. Now, it’s pretty damn close. She knows that R&B or some of the Pop stuff on the radio is not Rock-n-Roll. She just calls that stuff “music” – but it seems that the stuff she likes, the stuff she refers to as Rock-n-Roll is the kinda harder punk music MrZ plays. She likes it LOUD. And with a lot of screaming.
In other words? She’s her Daddy’s daughter.
LilZ and I try to get her to like more Pop or R&B music, because that’s more of what we listen to. But no. She’ll just keep saying, “Play some rock-n-roll,” until she hears something she likes. And in reality? She’s much happier in her Daddy’s car. With his loud music. In my car, I’ve just stopped trying. I don’t have a functioning CD player so we’re stuck with the radio. And the stuff on the radio is just not rockin’ enough for my toddler’s tastes.
Which means in 10 years her Daddy will be the one taking her to concerts while I sit at home whining about her horrible taste in music.

awww they can go to father/daughter rock concerts together!!!
My daughter is taking a strong liking to Jimmy Buffett and now, Bob Marley.
Which either one beats the hell out of Barney, so I’m okay with it.
Hee.
Sounds familiar! My boy loves Blue Oyster Cult’s Godzilla. LOUD. And he can recognize anything by David Bowie now. He says he likes anything “rockin.”
Haha interesting what things they pick up!
Cute! When I was 16, my step-mom had a baby, so when she was old enough, we taught her to headbang. We were awesome siblings.
My 9 month old loves it when her dad and I dance around the house to late 90′s punk. Hee!
What? Dead Kennedys? X? Black Flag? Old school? New school? Too funny!
Kait – we did the same to my cousins!!! me and my brother taught Tori (she’s now 14) how to headbang shortly after she’d learn to talk – so she wasn’t quite stable enough on her feet so she kept falling over – thank goodness for nappies! Extra padding!!!
I definately ended up siding with my Dad on the music taste – My Mum likes Donny Osmond and David Cassidy!!! She’s getting better as she now likes Mika cos he sounds like Freddie Mercury. When i was younger my mum got me into Billy Ray Cyrus my favourite song for a few years was Achy Breaky Heart. I’d try and line dance round our living room even though i couldn’t line dance to save my socks!
Thank goodness for my Dad influencing me with The Eagles and Pink Floyd!
P.s. I did mean talk not walk – that way she could tell us if she was dizzy and felt sick so we could get her to the loo before she threw up on my Grandma’s carpet lol
Same here!
F&E are also into Johnny Cash, Donna Summer, and Elvis (the fast stuff). I REALLY try to make them groove out to some old-school Michael Jackson like the Thriller album, but they don’t buy into it.
And in 20 years, she’ll probably like YOUR music. That’s how it worked with me at least! However, my dad has a soft side for classical and jazz that I also share.
