I went to my OB yesterday and he prescribed me some antibiotics for a possible sinus infection and ear infection. This would make me feel better if it weren’t for the fact that this will have NO effect on my allergies which are the actual things making me miserable right now.
However, while I was waiting to get my Rx filled, I was browsing the pharmacy section at Target. And do you know what I found? DO YOU? I found Puffs Plus with VICKS. Have you heard of such a thing? I had not but since I was, at that moment, struggling to breathe — I bought a box. And I have carried them around like a baby ever since. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL.
I hold one in front of my face at all times and use it as a type of filter. The Vicks Vapor Rub goodness keeps my nasal passages clear while the Puffs Plus goodness keeps the skin on my nose from falling off every time I blow. It is the best combination since Peanut Butter met Honey and made a sandwich for me. I am in LOVE.
Now, I would not recommend using these tissues as your standard around-the-house tissues. They are very strong with the Vicks goodness and probably not what the casual sneeze or sniffle needs. However, if you use any other Vicks products when you’re sick/congested…THEN YOU MUST USE THESE. I would marry them if I could.
Okay. I’m done freaking out about facial tissues — I’ll get back to looking for a life now.

I haven’t tried those out yet….but I am too cheap to buy them when I am sick! Isn’t that sad? I hope you start feeling better soon!!
when I was pregnant with Fuller I spent most of the pregnancy cursing the fact I couldn’t breath. I had a combo of allergies and pregnancy related sinitus. (I also had pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome.)
Within 24 hours after Fuller was born, the skies cleared and suddenly I was able to breath like I hadn’t breathed in 7 months.
I’m really am getting excited about your son’s upcoming birth, but I really look forward to your new found breath on life. It will be wonderful.
(The carpal tunnel cleared up in about 3 days.)
I discovered these in a small pack a month ago, and when my allergies started going haywire a few weeks ago, I found a giant box. Hudson the kid also loves them. As an added bonus, if you put them in your car, and it gets warm during the day, you will get in and it’s like you’re in a Vicks sauna and your nose clears up right away.
I’m glad you warned me about the allergy business during pregnacy. I went to the dr and he gave me rhinocort which is a type B allergy/pregnacy nose spray. It really helped, can you have that? Also, have you tried the shower soothers? I took an average of 4 showers a day, some at 2 am for about a week and one of those made the steam even better.
Mine got so bad that my teeth started hurting, like they were about to crack off and run away from my overbearing sinuses. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
Haven’t used those but adore the Puffs Plus with Aloe Lotion. Maybe you can move on to those once you don’t need the Vicks. They are silky smooth and never never make your nose raw or red. I stock my pre-schooler’s class with them for the teacher in winter because those cheap school tissues piss me off.
Just hearing/seeing the word Vick’s makes me nostalgic. I can smell it even. It reminds me of my grandmother.
I’ll have to try these.
In my office the admin orders the Kleenex anti-bacterial tissues for people to keep in their offices. I understand this, I hate it when people spread germs in the office, but for the casual allergy user of tissues these are not the answer.
I keep a box of Puffs Plus in my office that I bring in myself (which, I really think people shoudl do anyway — why is the company buying you tissues?) The problem is that people kept coming into my office and using my Puffs because they feel much nicer on the nose. I now have a “dummy” box of the antibacterial on my desk for people to use when they stop by and my own Puffs Plus stash in my drawer. I know, I’m crazy.
I love Vicks with all my heart when I am sick. Love it!
I want them, but I am so cheap haha. Then again, I hate my nose getting allr ed and raw, so maybe I should just get over it
My 11 yr old daughter LOVES the vicks tissues. She has horrible horrible allergies/sinus issues so I always keep an extra box on hand for her. But you are right about not using them as every day tissues – my husband was not amused when he picked one up to just wipe his nose.
Hope you are feeling better soon. The last month of my first pregnancy I was pretty much the same as you.
Whoa, I’m definitely going to need some of those! I don’t need them NOW, but I get frequent colds and sinus infections, and I already am addicted to Puffs Plus because if I use regular tissues my nose gets all ripped up! Thanks for the recommendation!
I also keep my Puffs Plus in my drawer at work so my coworkers don’t use them all and leave me with none when I need them. I also put the cheap chocolates out and keep the good stuff in the drawer. Hey, if they want the good stuff they can fill the basket, right?
So, are you giving up your pen and planner obsession for Puffs w/Vicks? Which would you take to a deserted island?
Hope you’re feeling better soon. I was sick in the home stretch of my 2nd pregnancy and was afraid of taking it to the delivery room with me. I got an Rx within the last couple of weeks so I wouldn’t greet lil’bug with a cold.
You can rub Vicks Vapo-Rub on your feet at night, put socks on, and I swear it works like a charm! I don’t know if Vapo-Rub is off limits to the pregnant population, but give it a shot. It’s my secret weapon during cold and flu season.
While in labor with my second child, our doula would put drops of eucalyptis (sp?) oil on a tissue and I’d position it close to my nose – it was the only thing that cleared the way for breathing through my nose.
So glad I stopped by today b/c I too was prescribed antibiotics to ward off a sinus infection but I still feel like garbage and my poor nose is so stuffed up!!
I’m going to try these!!
Tissues are something that you rarely think about until you are afflicted with a cold to such a degree that you notice regular tissue is the equivalent of sandpaper to your nose. THEN the choice becomes very, very important.
Hi! This is my first time commenting, and it’s going to be about sinus issues, of all things!
I thought I was dying of a sinus infection in December and read something online about a sinus rinse and lots of people raving about it….I was desperate at that point and immediately sent my husband to Walgreen’s to buy it. The one I use is called Neil Med sinus rinse, and it is AWESOME. It’s a little weird getting used to squeezing salt water up your nose (which is basically what this is) but it’s TOTALLY worth it. (I was also using the Vicks Puffs at the time, as well- double whammy)
On another note, I happened on your blog from somewhere else, but I live in Madison and love reading about stuff in my local area from someone else’s point of view.
Thanks!
Ok, so I totally want me some of those Vicks Puffy things. Now I just need to find the little suckers here in Australia.
I LOVE those Vicks tissues!! They are AMAZING! I’ve got the worst cold ever right now. I need to go get some of those. Do you think people will think less of me because I’m wearing the nice shirt I wore to work and sweatpants?
I keep seeing those and wonder if they work. Next time I buy kleenex, those are TOTALLY what I’m getting.
WARNING: yes, the tissues are great, but do not use them on your eyes! Seems a simple concept, like anyone would get it, but for some reason when I was crying during The Notebook I grabbed one to wipe my eyes. Talk about making a bad situation worse!
I will have to try them!! They sound lovely!
I have a passionate love affair with Puff’s Plus, as I have horrible allergies and they are the only ones that hold up for my super snots. Imagine my delight when I found out about the Puffs with Vicks. It was a slice of heaven. The only thing is, the initial awesome smell wears off and you are left with a hint of Vicks about 1/2 way through the box. Allergies suck.
