I got the call! I got the call! They made it to our name on the waiting list and we get to camp out at the Botanical Gardens tomorrow night! (Full story here.) She left a message saying I needed to touch base with her and pay over the phone by the end of the business day or else they’d give our spot to someone else. I dropped everything and called and told her she won’t have a more excited camper. They’re also showing a MOVIE there! And we get to fish! And go through the gardens at night! I’M SO EXCITED.
My family – on the other hand – is not. NikkiZ is excited about getting to sleep in her Ariel sleeping bag, and I think she is excited about spending the night at the Botanical Gardens. But LilZ? He’s kinda like, “Eh. Can I take my DVR?” And MrZ is all, “Have fun! See you on Saturday!”
But I can’t think of a more fun way to spend one of my the last nights with the kids before kid #3 arrives. And yeah – I won’t be comfortable – but it’s not like I’m sleeping peacefully through the night in my own bed. I get up and pee 10 times and toss and turn between Braxton-Hicks and baby movements. I might as well be doing that somewhere different, for a change.

Yay thats great news! I’m sorry no one else is as excited as you are but I would definitely be excited! I’m glad you’ve been able to do something together as a family before the baby comes.
That’s wonderful! I’m so happy for you!
YAY you – i’m so happy for you!!
i think once everyone gets there, you all will have a great time! what a great adventure and a great memory for you all to look back on before the baby comes!!
Hope they have more than a porta-potty for you, though.
Beth B. (tired mommy to a busy 4.5 yr old)
Yay! What a great & special thing to do before baby! Take lots of cool pics!
Why do I have a feeling you’ll go into labor before Wednesday?
That sounds like such a fun time! I love public gardens, and to see them at night would be extra special. Have fun with your kiddies before the baby comes!
I’m calling that you’re going to go into labor during the camp out. Now THAT will be a blog post.
I’m with Nina and JP on this one.
It’s official – you’re insane! Wonderful insane, though. I’m happy for you. You deserved this opportunity if you want it so much. Have a blast.
Maybe they’ll do this every year from now on and you can all go and tell stories about how you all went for the 1st time when AndyZ was still inside or how he was born there
I hope you have a wonderful time. Don’t let him take the DVR. I bet he will love it. I know NikkiZ will too. What memories you’ll be building. I can’t believe it’s almost time for AndyZ to make an appearance. good luck.
Peeing 10x plus a night while you’re camping?? Dude, I hope they have facilities? Close by?
I’m so happy you got in. Have fun!
i know you’ll have a great time!! i’ll be thinking of you! =)
You are crazy. And I LOVE it!
That is great news! Oh, I’m so jealous. I can’t wait to hear all about it!
We’ll be camping with the cub scouts in three weeks. I camped in 30° temps when I was three weeks pregnant with lil’bug. Never again. She went along at six months and again at 18 months.
What great news!
Wow, that is so great! Your kids will remember that forever. Take lots of pictures, too, just to prove how pregnant you were and you STILL took them camping. I love camping but I SO would not want to be sleeping on the ground all night while I’m pregnant. You are AWESOME.
That is so cool!! I know how much you wanted to go!! I am sure it doesn’t have to be said, but take lots of pics!!
You are hardcore! I hope they have nice loos close by too for your convenience. Lil Z might change his mind about using his DVR when night falls, I can’t imagine anything nicer than camping in a botanical garden smelling all the exotic plants at night fall. Do they have birds there?
Hmm I wonder if London Zoo would let me sleep in the butterfly garden over night? That would be magic
You are so going to look back on this and think “Remember that time when I was a week from giving birth and I totally decided we all needed to go camping … Yeah I sort of went crazy right there at the end didn’t I?”
But we love you for it. Have fun. Try not to give birth in the gardens.
Sounds like great fun. Don’t forget your tripod.
I am excited for you and admisre that you would be so excited to do something like days from giving birth. Me, not so much! Bets on going into labor at the Gardens?? How apropos, it being your favorite place, to bring a new life into the world there-maybe under your favorite dogwood? LOL Have fun!
Have fun! I went camping when I was 35 weeks pregnant. Up north. With no running water. In a tent. In the woods. Did I mention no running water?
It was awesome, and something I’d do again in a heartbeat. I love to be able to say that I went camping as a baby was about to jump out of me (though no jumping was done–we had to coax her out with icecream and chocolate and a wee bit of smoke up in there). We have wonderful memories, and really? Sleeping on the ground wasn’t really so bad.
I’m so glad you are in!
Ok, I keep checking back for updates on how your camping trip went. Can’t wait to hear all about it.!
