They start walking at about 3 months, right?

NikkiZ
NikkiZ at 3-4 weeks

Smile?
AndyZ at 2-3 weeks

This is one of the many reasons I love flickr so much for photo storage/archiving. As soon as I saw that picture of AndyZ from last week I thought, “That looks a lot like his sister’s first attempts and non-voluntary smiling.” Because I remembered she was wearing a hat in that photo, I did a search through my archives of photos tagged with NikkiZ and Hat. I found the right photo on the first page of results and can now lay them together to show you. I LOVE FLICKR.

I don’t normally think AndyZ looks like his sister, but you can’t help but see similarities in these photos! Or maybe that’s just what all 3-week old babies look like? And why do I suddenly not remember anything about developmental milestones? When do they smile for real the first time? I mean – it’s been two years since I had a baby, am I supposed to remember that stuff? Another reason why I love flickr – because I can only remember when I look back at photos like this of NikkiZ.

This is why I blog: Because my college years permanently damaged my memory.

I still say AndyZ looks just like you in this picture.

  2. Stacey says:

oh man….they do really look alike in those two pics! So freakin cute your kids are!

  3. Moogie says:

Wow…there is a lot of similarities in those pictures. Both are heart meltingly adorable. I never remembered milestones either. Besides, it seemeed that my youngest would do things whenever SHE wanted to. :) She’s still like that. I could never really rely on the normal milestones.

Oh my goodness! It’s hard to tell because the pictures are posed differently, but yeah, I think they look related.

Milestones: each kid does his/her own thing when they’re good and ready. Walking at 3 months, no. Talking at 6 months, nothing you’d understand. Potty-training at 2.5, if you’re very lucky (you might want to start now, though, they say boys take longer than girls).

Lil’bug started at 18 months and we’re getting very close. If only she wasn’t so stubborn. so contrary. They also say, the earlier you start, the longer it takes.

    Hi Zoot!
Congrats on a beautiful baby boy. So handsome!

Can everyone hook me up and vote for my handsome husband and baby? It would be an awesome father’s day gift.

You had said before you had AndyZ that you had put a few more picture of NikkiZ as a newborn but had made them private until after he was born just so people wouldn’t think it was him, did you ever make those available for comparison(sp)?

  8. Maria says:

You can totally tell they are related. :-)

  9. Bethiclaus says:

I generally think wee babies all look similar, but in these I definitely think there’s a bit of a family resemblance. Or maybe they’re just so cute that I can’t actually keep my thoughts together well enough to compare them.

  10. Swistle says:

They DO look alike! And SO CUTE!

Typical first smile is around 6 weeks, but it’s not weird to have one even as early as 2-3 weeks.

  11. Heather says:

Wow they do look alike! Although I guess there are some similiarities between all babies at that age…wee and adorable :D

  12. Kathie says:

My 7 week old has been smiling consciously for about a fortnight now… AndyZ (and NikkiZ of course) is so adorable!

  13. amanda says:

AndyZ looks so much like you, and NikkiZ favors your husband.

Congrats on the new little guy!

  14. Amy says:

Here you go again – making my tubes untie themselves.

  15. Rachael says:

I had this pulled up when my mom was here, and she asked if they were twins. They are both totally adorable.

  16. Tara says:

i agree with Amanda….AndyZ TOTALLY looks like you (in the eyes espcially), and i think NikkiZ looks more like her dad.

either way, they both make me want to have another, and my first will only be 7 months old tomorrow!

  17. Sandy says:

I started reading your blog when NikkiZ was born. It’s hard to remember her being so small now. They are both so cute!

  18. JaniceNW says:

How sweet. Comparitive photos of two beautiful children. My boys looked nothing alike at 3 weeks of age. It’s not just babies that age, it’s your babies. :)

  19. Erin says:

I think they have the same eye shape. Let us know if you add the newborn pix of NikkiZ to flickr so we can compare those :)

  20. Winnie says:

When I saw the first picture, I thought it was a post about how AndyZ has to wear his sister’s hand-me-downs, so I guess that means they look a lot alike to me. ;)

  21. Moogie says:

I just showed Meelie (10 year old) these pictures and she thought they were the same baby. So see, they really do look alike. :)

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
