How is it that I haven’t had a job in 4 weeks yet I still feel like I’m spending everyday trying to get caught up and actually coming no where near to that destination? Oh yeah – I had a baby. That explains it.

I wish my lack of posting this weekend meant I had been doing something fun and awesome that I could tell you about today. But it did not. I’m not even sure what we did that kept me so busy, I can’t remember. Where are my pants? Do I ask that every day?

So – we’re using BULLETS this morning! Because when I’m frazzled that’s my go-to blog technique! And I’m totally frazzled this morning.

  • I started watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer this weekend. I never watched it before but I’ve been watching some of the first season of Angel as it airs on TNT, and thought I should backtrack a bit to watch Buffy. Dude, I’m totally hooked on that show 12 years after it’s air date. I’m hip with the times.
  • My hair has been AWESOME lately. What is up with that? Pregnancy didn’t make my hair awesome, but being postpartum is. This would be even more incredible if I’d bother to shower and fix it more than once a week. As it is now – once a week is about all I’ll bother with. NikkiZ and AndyZ are lucky if they get bathed every three days. Good thing MrZ and LilZ can bathe themselves or we’d be one disgusting family of bad hygiene.
  • I have one really sore boob. It hurts ALL OVER, like it’s bruised or something. It got me to tears a few times yesterday. However, there are no other symptoms, no heat or fever or redness to indication infection. I have the mystery nursing boob pain, anyone else ever had that?
  • I’m about to start talking about weight loss and training on my blog and I’m not looking forward to that. I think I’ve reached a platform of what I can loose only trying the minimal “Avoid Fast Foods” and “Sometimes Get Off Your Ass” techniques. I have a 5K I want to run in September and a half-marathon I’m going to attempt in November, so once I get working on those goals it will be easier to lose weight. Considering I walked 2 miles Saturday morning and almost had a heart attack just pushing the stroller up the hill? Those goals are a little bit further away than I originally thought.
  • We are officially minivan drivers now. More on that later but let me tell you: There is nothing more awesome than being able to drive the kids somewhere now and them not be able to touch each other. NikkiZ has learned she can irritated her brother in the typical 2-year-old fashion (sticking her feet in his face, spitting on her fingers and rubbing it in his hair, etc) and he doesn’t fight back. He gets irritated, but what’s he going to do? Spit in her hair? As much as he may want to, he’s avoided that retaliation. Now? She can’t even reach him when we drive somewhere. And I’ve never been so happy.

Even with only one kid (until October), the minivan is great! Just all the crap that you can haul around makes life so much easier.

  2. Stacey Says:

Oh to be sucked into Buffy. I did that a few years back, a roomie was buying the season’s on DVD and we would sit there and watch them, 3-4 eppies a night. More on the weekend. It sucks you IN. I even had it on Tivo for awhile and got a new roomie sucked into it. I stayed away from Angel because I knew that I would get sucked into that as well. ;)

YAY for the mini van! :)

Good luck on the training. I was good for a week. and that was it.

  3. Fraulein N Says:

Somehow I’ve managed not to get sucked into Buffy OR Angel. Like if they’re on I can probably watch and follow along about 40%, but any more than that and I know I’d get HOOKED. And that would be so sad now ’cause I’d have no one to talk about it with.

  4. miuzi Says:

I stopped reading after you said Buffy. Yes Buffy!! I too have done the marathon Buffy thing and I think I need to do it again.

    Enjoy the Buffy!

  5. Kate Says:

In the last bullet, are you referring to LilZ or AndyZ as the victim of NikkiZ’s antics? Having two sons makes the brother term confusing :)

  6. Mrs. CPA Says:

We took the minivan plunge a few weeks ago (I also managed to score a free trip to Vegas with my excellent negotiating skillz). I take my two nephews everywhere with my son, and with a baby coming in a few months, we had no more room. My sister is still embarassed to have to ride in it, but when we go to the beach next week, she’ll enjoy the quiteness that is 3 boys and three parents all riding together while the kids have plenty of room and can watch a DVD. Even my husband loves it. He says it’s like a personal jet.

  7. chantale Says:

I love Buffy! I started watching in second season and was the same age Buffy was each season (does that date me?). Anyways, when my son was a baby, I watched the entire 7 seasons of Buffy and then the 5 seasons of Angel, followed by the one season of Firefly when my son was napping. All very good.

  8. hulagirlatheart Says:

Ha! I resisted the mini van for a long time. I didn’t want to be one of THOSE moms. Psst. Don’t tell anyone, but I absolutely love the mini van now because…no one is touching anyone else!

  9. Jane Says:

Re: The mystery boob soreness. Could be a few things: one, AndyZ is just sucking harder on one side (my baby does) and the tissue is sore. Should resolve itself in a day or so, but be prepared for a comeback. Two, maybe a plugged duct? Does it feel more full or sore in one particular area? It could be this fun side effect of breastfeeding. If you have any vibrating devices (hey, dirty minds! An electric toothbrush is what I meant =) try focusing the vibration on that particular area to loosen it up, and also pump that side. Sort of like boob draino!

I meant to post the other day about the feeling yourself up in the car dealership. I have a 13 week old and do this ALL THE TIME! I am aware of it, but thought it was just me until my sis visited (with her 9 month old) and she was doing it too. God I love women!

    Good luck finding your pants.

  10. Sarah Says:

    1) My hair got far more awesome AFTER pregnancy than it ever did during. I never got the famed “pregnancy hair”, but afterwards? Gorgeous. For, like, a month. Then it all fell out. (HOORAY FOR YOU!)

    2) I saw a minivan driving down by the daycare on Saturday that had a license plate that made me think of you. Could it have been..?

  11. Tara Says:

OMG, BUFFY!! I came late to the Buffy party, too, but not as late as you–I was catching up on all of the back episodes via Netflix (mwah, Netflix!) while watching Season 7 on TV. LOVE me some Buffy. And while you’re on maternity leave anyway, why not enjoy some good TV, right? :-) I never did get sucked into Angel, though–but maybe because I didn’t watch from the beginning.

  12. Karin Says:

I totally just started watching Buffy too! (That sounded so pre-teenish, but oh well…lol). I’ve been trying to watch free episodes online, but I’m going to have to go rent it because that will make it much much easier. Yay for you and me being so hip with the times together. ;)

  13. brit Says:

I got hooked on buffy during my first pregnancy ( i watched episodes between hurling) I never transistioned to Angel though…

  14. Michelle Says:

You are kind of my hero – a 5K by September? I just hope to have lost a couple of lbs 3 months post partum – actual goals would put me over the edge. I put my 8 month pregnant butt on the treadmill yesterday because I got tired of hearing myself say it was too hot to go outside and walk. 20 minutes at barely above what used to be my warm up speed for walking and I had to sit down again. Sigh…recovery from this isn’t going to be pretty.

  15. ladybughugs Says:

My hair has never been awesome. Two pregnancies, never awesome. I’m jealous.

Babies don’t need baths every day. Too many baths can dry out their skin. Lil’bug doesn’t get a bath everyday, either. Anyone want to fault me for it? They can come and fix dinner for us, then I’ll have time for a bath every night, or not.

Sore boob, I’d think plugged duct. Have AndyZ start on that side or pump it. I had more plugged ducts with Lil’bug than with Scout. Does it feel like you’ve got a ‘knot’ in there? plugged duct.

I really like my minivan. I like the extra space. I like the captains chairs in the second row so the kids can’t touch each other (except, when Scout wants to antagonize Lil’bug he’ll lean over and rest his elbow on her seat), I like to be able to take more passengers, like Scout’s friends, if we want to.

  16. ladybughugs Says:

Oh, and I, for one, don’t mind the bulleted list. If that’s what you’re feeling then go for it!

  17. The Other Laura Says:

Oh! Buffy is one of my secret vices!

  18. Erin Says:

I had that pain for over a week. What helped me goes against your 2nd bullet point. Standing under a super hot shower for ten minutes or so and massaging with some body wash or gentle soap really helped.

  19. Swistle Says:

    1) I love bullet lists.

    2) I watched Buffy all during my last pregnancy, finishing it during the newborn days. Then I watched Angel. Then Firefly. I love DVDs.

    3) I love minivans. LOVE.

  20. Swistle Says:

P.S. If you try Firefly, give it a few episodes before rejecting it. My sister-in-law told me that it took her five episodes to like it, and then she watched the whole series all the way through about four times in a row. I had basically the same reaction: first I thought I didn’t even want to watch it, and then I thought it was the best thing I’d ever seen.

  21. Catherine Says:

I pink puffy heart Buffy. Have most of it on DVD. There are people that wrote their thesis on Buffy (not me). It’s totally campy. And fantastic. If you didn’t love Joss Whedon before (Firefly, Serenity, Toy Story) you will now!

  22. Rachael Says:

Yay for another Buffy fan! I didn’t start watching it regularly until about 1/2 way through, so I’ve been wanting to go back and watch the whole series from the beginning – I have all the DVDs. I might just be inspired! If you liked Buffy & Angel and haven’t already, you should check out Firefly. Cancelled before it’s time and soooooo good.

  23. Marilyn Says:

Buffy! I was SO sad the day that show ended. I had mad Buffy love, I tell you. When you’re done with that, you gotta watch Firefly. Joss Whedon is a mad genius, I tell ya.

And YAY on the minivan! Welcome to the dark side. We’ve got cookies.

  24. Snarky Mommy Says:

I am thinking pugged duct too. And for me, plugged ducts are always followed by thrush. Which I am hoping is not the case for you. But my first case of it with Emmie(which I never had with Jack) wasn’t all that symptomatic except for the pain deep in the breast between nursing sessions. I used gentian violet (her purple mouth was awesome) and it cleared up.

  25. misty Says:

Buffy is one of my favorite shows ever. I have seen every episode (multiple times). I don’t know how far you’ve made it, but Spike is my favorite person (or vampire, I guess) EVER. I would marry him, I tell ya. lol. My boobs hurt all the time after birth. Sometimes, only one hurt. But then again, I did not brestfeed, so I’m not sure what the boob pain could be. Other than that, I’m glad all is ok. lol.

  26. mama speak Says:

Hey, I’m the expert on plugged ducts (I had them constantly during nursing for both kids) and you’ve got one! Lucky you! Seriously, massage while he’s eating, and try to let him eat on that side first; he’ll suck harder helping to break it up. Massage it while in the shower; get in the shower to help break it up, the heat & steam will help. Some people will tell you heating pad inbetween, I found it made it worse, but ice pack helped me a lot. I couldn’t sleep w/out one from the pain of them. You’ll be able to tell when it breaks up & don’t let up on it till it does or you’re well on your way to mastitis. (sp?)

So glad I could be a ray of sunshine right there.

Hope it gets better soon, those suck.

  27. Tisha Says:

in my experience, mysterious boob pain = thrush

    ps: Joss is a god

  28. lynne Says:

You have only now got into Buffy…?
    What..?
That show aired for the first time in 98 in the UK! I caught the very first one by accident and it changed my life ( sad though it sounds but that show did help cheer me through some tough times). I named my cat after Willow . Could I possibly be more geeky than you? :)

P.s I even have a vampire stake Buffy bottle opener my hub thought I would like lol.

  29. lynne Says:

P.s. I agree with Rachael, Firefly was excellent, it just wasn’t Buffy and you needed to engage your brain more as the characters and plots were more involved. I hope one day Josh changes his mind about writing for TV and the show get’s resumed.

  30. Secha Says:

DUDE! I love Buffy. Buffy is better than Angel, IMO.

And, Yay for having the mini van! That’ll make trips a lot easier for all of you, I’m sure! =D

  31. Colleen Says:

I’m slightly embarrassed to say we own every season of Buffy and Angel on DVD. It was an obsession (and we’ve been thinking we should watch them all again). When they were over we also bought the single season of Firefly (also Joss Whedon) and the movie, Serenity.

Now I’m hooked on Bones, mainly for David Boreanaz. Thank goodness it’s a pretty good show.

Can’t help with the sore boob. I can say when I nursed Zoe I was in pain the first 6 weeks. Constant pain. Then it stopped. (The pain… not the nursing).

Oh, and just wait until NikkiZ learns the supreme irratiation that can be caused by poking a finger closely (never touching) and teasing…. “I’m not touching you…. I’m not touching you!!!” I have absurdly fond memories of my brother yelling “MOM! She’s not touching me!!!!”

  32. Jackie Joy Says:

Buffy, how I love thee. Much, much better than Angel.

I would LOVE to see you post about your health and exercise routine! You inspired me so much with your running routine last year.

  33. Maria Says:

The good thing about posting about weight loss is that you can encourage others.

Can’t wait to hear about the new van.

  34. canape Says:

    12 years ago? Really?

I am not a late comer to Buffy. I have always loved Buffy. And now I feel really really old.

I had all over boob pain when Bird’s latch went wonky and was cutting off the circulation in the nipple or something like that. You can go to kellymom.com and look up Nipple blanching and vasospasm. It hurt like hell, but quit after several days – I guess we fixed his latch or our positioning. Who knows?

  35. Moogie Says:

You know, I never did watch Buffy but my girls do, and I have a lot of friends that do/did as well. I think I missed out. I loooove, loooove, looooved the mini van when the kids were younger especially. And I know EXACTLY what you mean about the kids not being able to bug each other. We kept “Darth Vadar” (as we called it) until it rolled over and turned into a Pinto. Now we have a Saturn Vue (they call it a tweener – somewhere between a mini van and a SUV). When we go on long trips we tend to let one of the kids sit up front, and the other sit in back with the parent who is not driving They are older though, so I don’t have to worry about car seats or air bags.

  36. me! Says:

    boob soreness

Are you right handed? Is the sore boob on the left side? Yes? You are positioning Andy wrong. Learned this on my 3rd child!! Had to lay down to feed him on the left side otherwise, I was screaming with pain!
    Hope this might help;)

  37. misguided mommy Says:

still waiting on mini van update
