Lazy Town

I spent yesterday being VERY lazy. As in – I didn’t change out of my pajamas until 3pm. We didn’t leave the house until then either. I just laid around cuddling with the kids and watching movies/TV. It was AWESOME. I never do that because I’m just too antsy, but since the weekend wore me out so much, it was all I could muster yesterday. And I fully planned on getting my ass in GEAR today. But so far? Still in my pajamas.

I start my 5K training today. I was going to do the Couch to 5K plan but since I’ve been doing so much walking, I think I’m going to improvise my own plan. My 5K is Sept. 27th so that gives me a good bit of time to prepare. I’m actually hoping to be up to running 5 miles by then since I’m hoping to run a half-marathon on November 8th. I plan on keeping this site posted of my progress since it will be quite miraculous if I accomplish either goal in time. I gave myself much more time to meet the same goals last time around, so this will require more discipline and less ice cream.

I plan on starting tonight my just walking a 5K. Just to remind myself of the distance. I’ve been doing my 2-mile walks pretty easily, so I’m hoping adding a whole mile onto it won’t kill me. As a matter of fact, I’m hoping it will do a number on my emotional stability and help me chill the hell out. I’ve been so tired lately I’m crying at the drop of a hat and feeling incredibly insecure and insignificant. I think feeling like I’m trying to accomplish something will help, as training last time around really helped with my anxiety.

I think it’s because it’s really hard to get stressed out or anxious when your worn out and sore. You find yourself focusing more on that weird muscle in your ass that hurt instead of the shit you need to get done today. It’s a nice change of pace. And hopefully it will help me knock off this baby weight. I still have 30lbs to lose before I get to my pre-NikkiZ weight.

So – since I’m not running a marathon this time around (not until my kids are grown – too difficult to find the time) I’m going to add a new category: Operation Half-Marathon. It also will help me keep the documentation this time around separate from last time. Let the boring training talk commence!

  1. Well, I’m convinced you can do anything you put your mind to. Good luck and have fun!

GOOD LUCK!! You are very going to do great. You are very good at follow through and you will get your self kicked into gear. I try something…and never fully follow through. One day I will!

  3. Sarah says:

Yay, boring training talk! Since I have a “craft” blog I try not to talk about my running but it sure is hard! I’ll come live vicariously through you.

  4. ladybughugs says:

You can do it! Baby steps. You have a plan and all of it sounds do-able. Go for it!

  5. Melizzard says:

If only there were public events for to act as milestones for people who spend hours of time on their Wii Fit boards. We still get to obsess about that weird muscle in our butt but runners get such better venues.

  6. Sarah says:

I wanna do this too. Where do you walk/jog/run?

  7. Elaine says:

I just did a 5k last week, and I’m thinking about doing a half sometime in the nearish or farish future. Do you know any good online support groups? I think I need a cheerleader to help keep me motivated…

  8. Emily says:

I just started looking into the Couch to 5K thing. I’m pregnant and due in five weeks, so I’m looking for something motivating to do once I get cleared to start exercising. So I’m really looking forward to reading about your progress!!

  9. Krista says:

I’m supposed to run a 10 mile race with my sister in six weeks. I started training this weekend. You may now proceed to laugh your ass off….

  10. Michelle says:

    Good luck!

And it has been lazy town around here for the past month. Yesterday we never left the house. I did get dressed by that is just so my husband doesn’t suspect how lazy I truly am.

You know I’m a believer in the C25K plan.

I’m also a believer in you. You rock, Zoot, and I’m sure you can ace this one.

  12. BD says:

I love the boring training talk.

Since I was sick in May, I went from running the half to barely being able to get in 2-3 so I am right back where you are. Thinking about training is much harder than getting out there and doing it, so don’t beat yourself up too much. And, I swear that once you get past that 4 mile bump everything gets easier from there. Just my two cents.

  13. Rachael says:

I just LOVE cuddly morning on the couch with my 2 year old. Obviously it’s not for every day, but it’s so great.

Good luck on your training! I don’t think adding a mile will kill you, I’m sure you’ll be in great shape by September!

  14. Angie says:

I would be really interested in what your training looks like. I’m thinking of running a 5K too and have no idea how to train properly for it.

  15. Moogie says:

Good luck! I know you will be able to do it!! I think you might be right and it will help you with your emotions as well. The soreness to think about for sure, but also the exercise. I was amazed at how much it helped me. I look forward to your updates. We are all pulling for you.

  16. Moogie says:

PS: How do you manage to run with both kids? Or do you have someone watching you while you do?

  17. WendyB says:

Good luck, you can do it for sure! And I’d love the boring training talk. I’m doing my first 1/2 Marathon in January, walking not running though. I started training back in January and was really motivated until mid-March and I have lost all my motivation since then – grrr!!! I’m still trying to find it again, even the tighter pants haven’t motivated me.

You can do it!!! You have 2 miles under your belt, so the 5K is just a few more steps! Did you get a jogging stroller for AndyZ?

  18. The Muse says:

It’s definitely not boring training talk! I’m training for my first marathon in December (partially because of your inspiration), so I’ll be back at half-marathon distance by the end of August or so (I did my first half at the end of March). I love reading about your training runs!

  19. wwbd says:

Yay! Me and my friend who had a baby at the end of April have just started our training for a half marathon at the end of November. I ran a very slow 3 miles yesterday and am inordinately proud.

  20. del says:

Wow, all these people who run real distances I am impressed. Hopefully reading about everyone who is training will try and get me motivated again. My current excuse for not running is the weather. Right now, the rain has just stopped the wind has picked up and it is really bloody cold. I have some wet weather and thermal running gear on the way, it is time to think of a new excuse to be lazy. If I didn’t have to take the kids to a holiday class I would happily spend the day in my pjs.
    Good luck with the training.

  21. WonderSpot says:

I started reading you when you were training for the marathon (half?), so I have no doubt at all that you can do this.

I live by one of the prettiest 3+ mile stretches in the WORLD and yet I still lack motivation to run (I do manage to walk it sometimes). Gotta get off the ass. Even if the ass is a super comfy place to be.

  23. Maria says:

I love LAZY days. I should incooperate more of them into my week.

I think I read somewhere that the adrenaline from working out gives you more energy.

You’ll do great and we will be here to cheer you on.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
