True Smiles

We went to the park this weekend and I started “chasing” NikkiZ around a picnic table with my camera. I held the shutter button down and I just kept taking pictures while NikkiZ ran around the table. She thought it was hilarious because I was spinning around trying to keep up with her. I was pleased to see that I had dozens of awesome shots when I got home. Here are a few of my favorites. These smiles are much more natural than when I actually try to get her to smile in a posed photo.

Those pictures are to cute for words… Way to cute!

A bit slow on the uptake.. (I was going to comment in the last post) But the new colours look great! Loving the purple :)

  3. Hahah, she’s so precious!

So very cute! I can definitely see why you’re happy with those :)

Those are wonderful and spontaneous pictures that capture the true joy of childhood. I love them.

Now can you bottle it and sell me some? ;-)

Gorgeous! :) I love her REAL smile!

She’s adorable. And a firecracker. I can tell.

  9. Those are the best smiles ever.

My 48 year old ovaries are quivering (because I have 2 boys and it’s way too late to add a lovely girl to the mix).

She probably thinks she is outsmarting you by running so fast. Clever mom!

I work in a special needs preschool program that also includes some “regular community children”, and posed pictures SUCK! I get much better candid shots of the kids, and the parents always love them! Because they’re natural. Kids at that age have that “cheese-factor”!!

I love the third and fourth ones– what great shots!

That second picture is a blue ribbon one for sure. Taking pictures of people is one of my top phobias….they always turn out SO poorly. But your impromptu portraits turned out quite well! Too bad the “chase” technique won’t work with everyone!

thats what I finally figured out to. Instead of asking her to smile, I had to make her laugh. A photographer did it and what a difference.

  14. Erin says:

You’re brilliant! These are great shots. They really capture her excitement and joy.

  15. Erin says:

Not related, but your Twitters reminded me you never showed us the new Mommy Wheels!

  16. Maria says:

Simply beautiful. The smile is contagious.

  17. Becca says:

Those are GREAT pictures! What a beautiful girl your NikkiZ is!

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
