A Bizarre Assortment of Bullets
Category: Randomly |
  • I finished Angel this week. That means I’m officially caught up with the rest of the Whedon-obsessed world. I have much to say about Buffy and Angel but I’m not sure if a post like that would be very relevant. I will say this: I have already started watching Buffy again - this time with LilZ. If you liked it the first time? I highly suggest buying the DVDs. The commentaries alone are totally worth it.
  • I actually cooked two meals different this week than I normally do. Granted - they were from a box (One Tuna Helper, and One Complete Meals) but still! TWO NEW MEALS. My family might still be in shock.
  • I’m so in love with the comments on the Boob Honor Roll! We should totally give out report cards to hang on our fridge. And I think Ashley should be our valedictorian.
  • I signed up to go on a field trip with LilZ’s English class next month. I can not EVEN begin to tell you how nervous I am. Is that really screwed up? I’m nervous about spending the day with a bunch of 8th graders. Probably because I remember 8th grade. I fear intense flashbacks that will have me curled up in the corner of the playhouse crying about being called Pizza Face. I think this will be the FIRST field trip I’ve ever gone on. Anyone got any pointers? Should I hide a flask in my purse?
  • I found myself avoiding an item of food the other day because it had no nutritional value. It was a biscuit. I TURNED DOWN A BISCUIT. SERIOUSLY. Can you believe it? I’ve only lost 3 lbs but I’m seriously seeing changes in the way I look at food. I’ve gone completely vegetarian when I’m in control of my own food and I’m even taking VITAMINS. Not a multi-vitamin, but ones a nursing vegetarian would need. I just feel good about my eating habits now. I just wish the weight would come off a little quicker. 3 lbs down…29.5 to go.
  • LilZ’s preschool teacher had a conference with me many years ago to point out how good of an artist he was. That he seemed to be drawing beyond his age. He has proven to be a GREAT artist as he gets older as well as a general creative sort. He wrote a 160-page book this summer and is starting a second one right now. It looks like his sister may have the same artistic streak. Lord knows they didn’t get those things from me.
  • There’s a little boy at the kids’ school with the same name as AndyZ. I walk through his classroom to get to NikkiZ’s every day. It’s very weird to see your child’s name somewhere that isn’t associated with your child. I can honestly say this is the FIRST time this has happened. My other two kids have unique enough names that I’ve never seen them anywhere other than associated with them. I wonder if my parents felt this pang of, “Dude! Great name!” every time they saw “Kim” in print? I feel like stopping the boy’s parents and saying, “Hey! Our kids have the same names! Isn’t that cool?” They’d probably find that weird.
  • I took a long bath last night to read last week’s Entertainment Weekly. It’s the first relaxing bath I’ve had in two weeks. This is unusual for me because I used to try to schedule them 2-3 times a week just to maintain a necessary level of sanity. Looks like I’m finally adjusting to life with three kids. That 20 minutes of peace is not as necessary anymore. Go me.
  • My one nightly beer on the other hand? Became much more necessary.

Lil’Z wrote a 160 page book? Why don’t you have him working for 451 yet, huh? HUH?!?!?!

    2. Krista Says:

Go, LilZ! I am beyond impressed with his ability to not only start a story, but to finish it. Any chance he’d be willing to let you share a snippet of his genius?

And last night I enjoyed a lovely glass of red wine after the kids went to bed. I imagine I drank it for much the same reason you picked up the beer bottle (or can).

I had more than one beer last night….I should have just taken a bath!!

YAY for re-watching Buffy!! Such a GREAT GREAT show. I have seen the series twice in full, I need to get the dvds…..

    4. Becca Says:

      Mmmm…nightly beer. Great idea.

I’m totally inspired by your food choices–that’s fantastic! I can do it, too! I swear I can! I saw pictures of myself last night, and dude. It is TIME.

and yeah, LilZ? You rock. Best big brother, best son, and an artist/writer? Be prepared to be swooned over.

    5. BD Says:

I actually talked to a mom who I didn’t know at the kids’ swimming lessons this summer b/c her daughter had the same name as Bee. It’s funny/interesting to see the other people that choose a rarely used name…I’m just always crossing my fingers that not TOO many people stumble upon it.

    6. Maria Says:

LilZ is officially my hero. 160 pages?!

When I meet a parent with the same name as Arun or Anjali, I will probably be all over that. And the chances? Are not that remote given how common their names are (for Indians, that is)

AndyZs name is funny - not uncommon, but not overly uncommon. So, I can see how you would react with a “huh?”. I feel that way about the name Oliver (my maiden name) - so many folks are naming their boys Oliver now, but when I was growing up, it was very uncommon to see it. So, now when I see the name in print, I do a double take.

    8. Erin Says:

I always feel weird when I hear other people calling their kids MY kids names. Like I invented them and they stole them! They’re not even very unique. I’m just weird :)

    9. wordnerd Says:

I am a PRO at 8th grade field trips. My advice? Stay out of the way, speak only when spoken to, and never make eye contact with your child. Simple.

    10. MissB Says:

I don’t drink much, but I gotta have my beer on the weekends. During the weekdays I’m too exhausted to remember

    11. Rachael Says:

Believe me, a post about Buffy and/or Angel will ALWAYS be relevant to the buttloads of Whedon-lovers out there. Last year I watched The X-Files from beginning to end in order, and I plan to do the same with Buffy sometime soon.

How come every time I read your blog Lil’Z gets more and more awesome? What a great kid.

    12. Ash Says:

Wow! LilZ is great! i started a book once… I think i only wrote two pages!

I love baths! Im sad that i am going to have to give them up when i move. Water restrictions and all that. :(
