Okay, so for a few weeks now my flickr badges (the one on the top and the one on the side) have been driving me INSANE. They both have had this little empty box next to the beginning of the badge screwing things up royally. I tried deleting the amount of photos, re-adding the code, and beating the computer with a hot frying pan. None of these things fixed this annoying issue.
Then, I noticed it on some of your blogs and badges too. And no offense? But it bugged me on your site too. Mainly because I wanted to know WHAT WAS MAKING THIS HAPPEN? I was slowly but surely losing my mind.
So, I search the flickr forums for help on the issue. I found this thread. It involves a lot of mumbo jumbo about CSS and code and such. Some of it made sense, some of it did not. However, I did use that thread to figure out how to fix the issue. It was typing in ONE character in TWO different places. SO EASY. I thought I would share the fix with you.
If you are having this problem, you probably have code that looks like this on your design page. The names of your divs may be different (mine are flickrbanner and flickr_badge_recent_side) but essentially? The same bit of code. (In wordpress…click “design” and then “edit theme” to find your stylesheet.) All you have to do? Is type an “a” in the right spots.
Now, if you want to know why this works? Or if you flickr photos are styled differently and may need a different fix, then I suggest you read that thread. You may find what you need. But, if yours is styled like mine? You don’t have to wade through the confusing Geek Speak. I did it for you! Now, look how pretty…

What browser did you see it bugging you? IE 7? IE 6? Firefox? All the above? Others?
Chrome, Firefox AND Internet Explorer! It’s a hat trick browser style!
I never noticed it — in Safari at least.
hmmm, I hadn’t even noticed the lack of symmetry in the photos but I am glad it makes you happy. If only I could get my photos to update randomly like they should according to the instructions I tried to follow. Perhaps if I make time to actually read your instructions I might get mine to work. Fortunately it doesn’t bother me too much (which is surprising considering my usual OCD tendencies) and I would much rather read blogs than read code to try and make mine pretty like everyone elses. I do like checking out your flickr link on your blog, it is another way to save a few minutes!
I hadn’t noticed it messed up on the side, but I was wondering why your pictures on the top were all of the sudden on two lines.
That kind of stuff bugs me too. Glad you were able to get it fixed.
Good for you. Little things like that make me crazy too.
That is the kind of thing that makes me pantingly, eye-crossingly crazy, especially since I am not very TECHY, and so even if I find explanations/fixes, I have trouble understanding/implementing them.
Thank You! That was so annoying.
THANK YOU!! It was happening on my site, then noticed you had it too so I figured it was flickr’s fault (nice, aren’t I?) and didn’t do anything about it!
SO grateful for this. I cringed every time I saw it!
Stuff like that drives me a little insane too.
heh. I just thought it was my computer….
