I'm in awe that anyone would camp with an infant, or even a toddler. Maybe it's because I abhor camping? Good luck!

We took our son tenting for the first time at 6-weeks old. He and I ended up sleeping in the car around 1:00 am, because I found that it was impossible to nurse comfortably in the tent as there was no back support. I was just figuring out how to nurse lying down, but on the slippery sleeping bag, KJ just kept sliding away. It was really frustrating. The next time we went (for 2 weeks, when he was 3 months old) I took a sheet, folded it in half and sewed it shut to build a liner for the sleeping bag out of it. Then there was no more slithering and nursing was easy. No one else even knew there was a baby in the tent - the nighttime feedings were smooth and easy.

I wish our botanical gardens would do something so cool. Have fun!

I took our baby camping many times this summer from age 4w to 4m and she really liked it (I think). For sleeping we had her in a fleece blanket sandwich; double layer thick under her, double layer over her and a hat, the under is as important as the over since heat gets lost into the ground/airmattress too easily. She isn't a wiggler so we didn't have to worry about blankets on her face. Around midnight I would move her to our bed for feeding and more sleep. The best thing I did was make a diaper 'station'. I used one of the large plastic totes I packed gear in; you can put all the supplies in it (once you unpack) and then use the tote itself for diaper changing platform. The floor is fine at home but dirt and grass is not so fun and this keeps the diapers etc clean and dry.

I have no suggestions... outside of the benedryl. The great outdoor air could work wonders though. Good luck! Can't wait to hear about how it goes.

We have quite a few friends who have camped when their kids were infants and one frequent thing is a separate mom and baby tent. Just a little pup tent, but it seems to keep everyone else from being disturbed. Have fun!!
