When I went to go pick up the kids yesterday, I walked out to the playground NikkiZ is usually at. I saw the teacher talking to a group of kids obviously in trouble and sitting along the wall. She saw me and turned around to the playground to help me spot NikkiZ. Neither one of us could see her. Then, we both turned and realized NikkiZ was sitting with the group of kids in trouble along the wall. The teacher acted surprised, “What are you doing here? You’re not in trouble!”

Ladies and Gentlemen…more proof that disciplining my child is an impossibility. My kid likes to get in trouble.

As funny as it was that she chose to be in timeout with the other kids, it was more a shock because it’s a change from what she’s usually doing when I come pick her up. There’s a concrete play area on their playground where the kids can ride the tricycles. NikkiZ has not mastered the whole pedaling thing yet, but she is always out there riding on one of the 2-seaters while some other kids pedals her around. Her majesty, NikkiZ, being driven by the peasants of her preschool kingdom. EVERY DAY. She has just recently started playing with this class in the afternoons and seeing her on the driven around the tricycle area. I’m assuming her usual chauffeur was not there. If she can’t be driven around like the royalty she is, then I guess the next best thing is being punished with the rest of the kids.

My daughter is weird.

That’s hilarious, that she gets them to push her around. How delightfully strange your little girl is.

Haha. She’s so funny. We took Meghan to a day nursery today to see if we liked it for when I start work and she screamed and cried her eyes out when we said we were leaving. I would have happily left her there for the afternoon if not just for a bit of peace and quiet but the daycare assistants just weren’t getting the hint.

It looks like you’ve been really good about making sure both NikkiZ and AndyZ get equal attention, but maybe she’s acting out so that she can obtain your undivided attention? I’m not a parent, but my niece did this when my nephew came along and we were stumped at the deliberately “bad” behavior until we figured out her real motivation.

  9. Dani says:

Your child is not weird. She is a rock star! And some day she may even be President. Case in point – she knows when to be driven around and knows when to settle in among the common folk and see things from their point of view.

    That is a great story!

I used to line up in the boys lines for the bathroom and such because that was where my friends were. I am still trying to live that down.

How do I get something like that going? Because I am working too hard at this “life” thing, apparently.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
