Playing Make Believe Regarding Our Weekend

Let’s pretend these pictures from Tate Farms indicates the awesomeness of my weekend. Let’s pretend that when NikkiZ woke up from her nap Saturday (after our trip to the farm) that she did not have a fever. Let’s pretend she didn’t then wake me up at 1:30am Sunday morning and keep me up until about 4:30am. And then let’s pretend her baby brother didn’t decide that 5am would be a good time to be up after I had been asleep for all of 20 minutes. And about Sunday? Let’s just pretend Sunday didn’t happen. And while we’re at it, let’s pretend last night didn’t happen as well. Can we do that?

Essentially – NikkiZ has a stomach bug. She threw up once and decided that shit was for the BIRDS and has fought against it happening again. She is old enough to understand what is happening and how to try to fight it (therefore making her miserable) but not old enough to just suffer on her own in bed watching TV. She’s practically demanded someone hold her for the last 2 days. She’s feverish and sick to her stomach and constantly swallowing because she’s trying NOT to throw up again. She is – by far – the most pitiful creature I’ve ever seen.

But about 4am this morning? When she finally let me dose off for a few minutes (after being up since 1am the night before) – I felt no sympathy for her. I actually considered jumping in the car while she slept and running to a hotel for the rest of the night. I was THAT tired. But – I opted to sleep for about an hour-and-a-half and she woke up miserable again at 5:30am.

Please let her be better by the time I get home from work. And please don’t let me fall asleep at my desk this morning. And if I do – please don’t let anyone disturb me.

Pictures from happier times…

Yikes! Mondays are hard enough anyway, without the whole lack of sleep portion.

  2. Hilary says:

Poor NikkiZ! Poor YOU! Stomach bugs are the worst in my opinion and I feel her pain b/c I will do almost anything to avoid vomit- mine or anyone else’s… Hoping she’s a new girl by the time you get home :)

  3. Fraulein N says:

Aw, poor baby. Well, poor BOTH of you, actually! Hope she’s feeling better soon and you can get some rest.

  4. Amanda says:

Awww. Poor NikkiZ. I hope she is better today and that you can get some much needed rest. Monday’s are hard enough, much less with no sleep. Get some caffeine & try to stay awake.

On another note, that pumpkin outfit on AndyZ is so freakin’ adorable, and I love NikkiZ’s black cat too. What a fun time of year for dressing up.

Yikes. Poor baby. And poor momma, with the no sleep. Those are the worst nights – when you’re feeling terrible for them, but really just want to have a pity party for yourself!

The pictures are gorgeous as always… maybe in a year that’s all you’ll remember? :)

  6. stacey says:

I hope that she does feel better and that no one else gets it!!! Sleep would be good as well. Awesome pics!! Love the new hair color!

  8. MissB says:

aww! something must be going around because my little guy has had a tummy ache for 3 days now. I’m hoping he’s feeling better today but I can only really find out when I feed him “real” food (not rice cereal or applesauce) I’m a little nervous, actually. his poo was STINKY

  9. MLW says:

Uh, don’t you have a husband, who was presumably asleep while you were up with a sick child, who could have watched the children while you took a nice, long nap?

  10. Zoot says:

He was actually on duty while I spent some time to myself yesterday morning on a photography outing. And he’s on duty while I work. So, it’s fairly even share of sleeplessness!

  11. jessica says:

Awww, poor Zoot girls! I hope NikkiZ feels better sooon, adn I hpe you get to catch up on some important ZZZ’s soon, too.

As muh as I LURVE Fall, I also kinda hate it. what with all it’s weird weather patterns making people sick! My Girl seems to be fighting off something, adn selfish mother tha ti am jsut wants her to be well by Thursday (my birthday) so we can go about our weekend plans as planned (pimpkin farm and girl being shipped off to Granny’s for the W/e so mommy can celebrate the end of her 20′s in style).

Anyhoo – get better, NikkiZ stay well, Zoot – SLEEP EVERYONE!

  12. I love the photos! I wish I had known you were coming to Tate Farms; I live about two miles from there. Hope NikkiZ is feeling much better soon….I can’t go without sleep the way I used to, so I feel for you!

  13. Maddie says:

Eek, I hope the little one feels much better soon, and I REALLY hope no one else in your household catches the bug!

  14. Elaine says:

I just have to say, these are some pretty awesome family pictures. I love how everybody is Halloween-ish without it being over the top and in your face. I hope NikkiZ feels better pronto and that you get to catch up on some sleep!

  15. Katy says:

I’m sorry your weekend was ruined. And I hope NikkiZ gets better soon.

  16. Erin says:

Too bad about the weekend. I hope NikkiZ feels better and that you get some rest before someone else comes down with it!

  17. Liz says:

I bought NikkiZ’s shirt for my daughter the other day. I love it, it’s so cute!

  18. Becca says:

I’m pretending Saturday late and Sunday did not happen.

I dressed my daughter up as a pumpkin and brought her to a pumpkin farm last year. Her expression was about the same as AndyZ’s. Priceless.

  19. JRM says:

    Those are some CUTE kids!

  20. Rachael says:

Ugh! So sorry she was sick, that just sucks. Love the photo in front of the pumpkin house!

  21. lynne says:

Wow orange is such a brilliiant colour. I love it. I wish we had pumpkin patchs in the uk. Last year at Haloween our local supermarket ran out of pumpkins so I used a water melon instead. The neighbourhood kids loved it.

I am really sorry NikkiZ is sick.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
