I’m Gonna Kick That List In The Ass
Category: A better me | 11 Comments »

Do you ever have one of those days where one little thing (a long phone call, a spill on the carpet, a dead dishwasher) keeps you from getting a big chunk of stuff done that you need to? So the next day you find yourself starting off behind? Now – imagine what having one dead computer, a few sick family members and a few bad anxiety attacks can do over the course of several weeks. Let me tell you what it can do: It can put you REALLY DAMN BEHIND.

(For the record – an anxiety attack only last a few minutes in my world. Very mild. That is not what can affect that outcome of my To Do list. It’s the following hours of recovery that seem to require eating lots of ice cream. That’s what tends to throw a wrench in my plans. Because I always have to go buy the ice cream in the first place.)

Have you noticed I’ve only been posting once a day around here? That’s blasphemy! I usually take an hour or so every night to write a few entries for the next day. Being down one computer means I have to wait for the other one to be available. With two other family members who use the computer at night – this tends to just keep the blog writing from happening. I don’t know why they think their homework and workwork is more important than my blog. Jeez.

I’ve also slacked on naming and tagging my flickr photos. I’ve always been ANNOYINGLY diligent about that because I use the name/tag system to search for photos that I may need for projects like family calendars or announcement collages. What will I do if I can’t make my Christmas collage this year? People will be sad! Or people won’t notice. I’m not sure.

I also have a couple of other ideas I’ve been working on for around here. All of those ideas are still just ideas as I’ve not made any steps to turning them into reality. This irritates me because I’d like to be the type of person that tests out ideas when they occur to her, and not the kind of person that just wishes she did.

So – now the family is well, I’ve started reading about meditating and anxiety (Notice I didn’t say I’ve started meditating…just reading about it. Baby steps.) and I hope to get our computer fixed this week. This means I should be able to finally cross some shit of this damn To Do list already. I started off the day properly by showering. That’s been on the To Do list for about a week now.

Are you scared to find out whether or not I’m joking?

In that picture the delectable AndyZ looks like he’s wearing a hair ornament like Project Runway‘s Kenley.

He rocks it much, much harder.

Yes, I’m scared to find out if you’re joking. :-)

I’m not scared at all. Because believe me, I totally understand and I do not judge. Most of my days seem to blur together, and I have the best intentions of doing things, yet I am always behind no matter what.

If it makes you feel any better, I have a laptop still sitting in the floor of my living room that I’m supposed to hook up to our wireless network. It’s been there three weeks already. Oops.

This is my daily routine. I always never get things done on the day I plan to and then I spend the next week catching up only to start all over again. I wish I had the motivation to do things on the day I plan to do them.

I completely understand this, and it plagues me as well. There’s a concept out there called “Eating the Frog” – basically tackling the biggest pain in the ass on your day’s list first. I try to employ that whenever I get overwhelmed, and you’d be surprised how well it works. I mean, amazingly well! As soon as you do the big thing, the littles all fall into line easily.

Not that I do this all the time… it’s more fun to procrastinate.

Aw, he looks like NikkiZ here. Hope you get caught up soon!

a little scared. but just a little.

try getting some acupuncture…that helps with anxiety. of course that would just have to be on the to do list for awhile!! I am finally getting a very much needed treatment on Wednesday. So very needed.

I’m with ya, sister! You go!! Kick that list!! Go on – do it. Put down the computer and kick it!

I can relate! My to-do list is NEVER done. And while I don’t have anxiety attacks often, I tend to shut completely down once I’m at a certain level of overwhelmed. By shut down, I mean, feel so tired I couldn’t possibly get up and do housework or run all the errands. It’s not completely lazy, it’s my coping mechanism. Never mind that it goes completely against my Virgo grain….I just have to worry about that later!

Feel better soon; sounds like you are on the right track!

It’s so funny you mentioned tagging – you ARE awesome with that. I stink with it. I have about 6,000 or more photos on Flickr (a lot dumped on there from Yahoo when they closed and I just never got around to sorting them) but I am starting to regret not tagging. Soon, soon I say, as I keep adding more and more new pictures without tagging…

By the way I found the way you put more than one picture on your blog posts with that feature called pictobrowser – it’s AWESOME! I used it the other day.

That picture is adorable! My few blog readers are lucky if I post more than once a week.
