Bullets…It’s Been Awhile.

  • Anyone see SNL this weekend? Is it just my unabashed love for Neil Patrick Harris or did it just seem AWESOME? I’m biased, so it’s hard to tell.
  • I’ve officially seen Twilight five times now. I have not seen a movie at a theater outside of the Harry Potter movies (which I always have to see twice to really enjoy them) since I was a teenager. I’m so lame.
  • I find myself continually amazed at how some people choose to convey their points online. Two people can choose to make the exact same point on an issue, but can do it in ways 180 degrees opposite of each other. One can be polite and insightful while the other can be rude and antagonistic. If I could have one wish, it would be that I always convey myself the first way and never the second way. I’m not sure if I’m there yet, but I try.
  • I can not decide what type of flag we need for the flagpole on our house that will work year-round. Flowers or birds seem too obvious. I want something kinda interesting…have you seen any cool or unique flags on houses?
  • LilZ is about to be 14. In less than 10 days. He’ll be starting high school in the fall. My anxiety over his need to keep aging has reach all time highs. Is there anything we can do about that?
  • I am so in love with my new camera lens that my Dad and brother bought me for Christmas that I actually had a dream about it last night. SERIOUSLY. In my dream someone stole it and I was devastated. Like, I couldn’t stop crying in my dream over that damn lens that was stolen. If the Twilight thing wasn’t enough? That dream surely shows me I need to get a life.

I figured you watched SNL, and I agree it was awesome. Especially the digital short, that was so adorable!

  2. Hilary says:

I always enjoy your bullets. While I am not at all a Twilight fan, I can comment on the flag issue: I am a fan of the earth flag (just navy with an earth in the center) as well as the American flag with a peace symbol in place of the 50 stars. I swear I don’t even own Birkenstocks but I love those flags.

  3. Fraulein N says:

    That picture is hilarious!

  4. bessie.viola says:

I am now mad that I didn’t watch SNL this weekend – NPH is my FAVORITE.

As for the flag business, I’m a fan of the classic US flag or, if you’re looking for something different, I love the PACE flag that my sister brought back from Italy. It’s all colors (striped like a rainbow) with PEACE in big letters (only it’s in Italian, hence PACE).

It hangs in my little sister’s room now – she’s in the USAF so it’s appropriate, waiting for her return home.

  5. danelle says:

SNL has become a funny digital short surrounded by 87 minutes of blech.

  6. Christina says:

To comment on nothing in your post – do you love that office chair or what??!?! I have one and makes my bum happy ;)

  7. Sarah says:

What is that fancy chair? I have been looking for a similar one and am wondering if it’s a Herman Miller or a knock-off — it looks really comfortable.

There are some fun flags here. I like the dogs, of course.

    That photo is hysterical.

  9. bad penguin says:

wow, when I first started reading your blog LilZ was just a little boy. How did he get to be almost 14?

I’d probably go see Twilight again if someone would go with me. So that couldn’t possibly be lame.

  10. Sara says:

This website has a few different themes too…I like the Asian ones. Koi flag, anyone?

The turtle one under animals is also pretty darn cute.

  11. I still want to go see Twilight another time or three or four before it leaves theaters. I need a life, too.

  12. courtney says:

it was the best SNL in quite some time, and NPH’s opening monologue was friggin’ PRICELESS.

  13. Meghan says:

    1. NPH on SNL was awesome. I’ve already watched it twice on my DVR.
    2. I too have seen the movie 5 times. And I NEVER go see movies. (Um, I’ve also read the series 4 times, and went through a bit of withdrawal this past weekend when I left them with my sister so she could read them a 2nd time.) You’re SO not alone here.

  14. Miss W says:

First off…SNL was awesome. Then again, I’m also a huge NPH lover. The digital short? CLASSIC! Loved the dancing doogies!! And the Mark Wahlberg HIMYM/Say hello to your mother in the monologue? HYSTERICAL!

As for the flag issue…we haven’t managed to figure out a year-round solution. Although here in the land of lake effect snow storms, our winter flags take a beating and have to be replaced every year — some don’t even last a month. My solution isn’t the most economical, but I buy a flag for each month. I’m trying to buy heavy duty ones that will last over several years, but can’t always find them and end up with cheap ones that can’t hack the wind here. Usually, I do something that corresponds with the month (beach in August, US flag around Memorial Day, July 4, Veteran’s Day, Halloween flag in October, Christmas in December, etc.) I do the same with wreaths on the front door and window clings in the downstairs bathroom (it has a creepy little octagonal window onto the front porch — I can’t handle the thought that someone could stand on a chair out there and see me on the toilet, so I put window clings up to distort any view into the room).

  15. SupaCoo says:

My husband was in the same graduating class as Neil Patrick Harris! That totally makes my going to high school with Elijah Wood’s cousin inadequate.

  16. Crystal says:

I don’t have a life either. I have seen Twilight three times. This lastest time was this weekend because it is at the theater around the corner from where I live. It is the cheap show so I had to go. I would see it again this week if I could. My husband thinks I am a dork.

NPH is awesome! I tried to stay up and watch SNL I just couldn’t and believe it or not I don’t have a DVR. Bummer.

  17. Jo says:

    Delurking to say:

I am obsessed with this season of SNL, and the NPH episode was no exception. Looooved it.

Have you looked on Etsy for cool flags?

Nikon is the only way to go…glad you like the lens!

  18. Catherine says:

I like Hilary’s flag suggestions. But maybe something sports themed like Auburn?

    Ha ha ha.

  19. Amy J says:

Delurking to day hello! I haven’t watched SNL yet but it’s on my TiVo! I can’t wait. I caught a few minutes of Harold and Kumar this weekend and I flipped to it just as NPH came on. It was awesome!

  20. stacey says:

oh no. Was NPH hosting?? man. I missed it. crap.

We had a state or perhaps it was a city flag outside year round. It got mangled during Gustav and we need to replace it. Most likely will be the same thing.

  21. Hope says:

It’s not quite my style, but a house in my neighborhood has a nice white flag with a black or brown border. In the center is simply a single letter – the family’s monogram. It’s simple and classic and can be left up year round.

  22. Janet says:

After reading the third bullet, I won’t say anything about the second ;-)

How about a Boston Terrier flag?

    Nice lens!

  23. Crystal says:

Don’t know if you know but March 21st is the release date for the Twilight DVD. It is a 2-disc special edition on Amazon here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001P5HRMI?ie=UTF8&tag=stepheniemeye-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B001P5HRMI

    I all ready pre-ordered it.

  24. lynne says:

How about a dragon on your flag like the Welsh… now that is cool. Yoru nto lame for going to see the same film 5 times, I’d prefer to use enthusiastic.

  25. nonsoccermom says:

Hee! That picture cracks me up.

  26. Sandy says:

I don’t think the sports flag deal would work out with you wanting a TN flag and MrZ wanting a Alabama flag.

Love the picture. AndyZ is sure checking them out!

  27. Alberto says:

I like the photo on this entry.

  28. Amy says:

    That’s my favorite lens too!

  29. Gigi says:

Ooh, I like the BREATHE Flag on the Just for Fun Flags site.

    http://www.justforfunflags.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=T8084&Category_Code=

If that long link doesn’t work, look under decorative flags- everday/special occasion category- and look for Breathe flag. It’s item number T8084. It would look cute in any season!

  30. ng says:

You always can tell a really good host in SNL when he/she is in a lot of sketches. Neil Patrick (two names, two names!) was in every single one. Maybe an NPH flag?

  31. Nynke says:

Got the Twilight Bug after you mentioned the books on your site. Devoured the books. I really, really enjoyed them. The movie…. not so much.
There was people in flitters of laughter at “Edwards” attempt at intensity (amongst other things) and not a few people walked out halfway through. I didn’t budge, I really WANTED to like the movie, but I just didn’t do it for me. Such a wasted opportunity.
Alice, Victoria and Esme were well cast though, and I think Jacob will do well IF they get the CGI right…. We’ll see!

  32. Nynke says:

Oh. Dear… “I” just didn’t do it for me? Should be “It”….

  33. Jem says:

OMG. Begging for Hogwarts flag, plz.

  34. Cindy says:

I have now seen Twilight three times, and I blame you for my entire obsession throughout my maternity leave. I started following Alpha Mom right before my son was born, and read your contribution for how to be a Cool Twilight mom. I had the book at home and just hadn’t gotten into it until I saw the trailer for the movie. Hot “good” vampires in love with human girls? It’s like Buffy has come back from the dead.

So after Finn was born I picked up Twilight and life was basically over. OB-sessed. Ridiculous. As in, feeding my son with one arm while turning the pages of New Moon with the other. As in reading absolutely every single online article I could get my hands on. As in at the bookstore every week to pick up the next book. As in deep depression when I finished Breaking Dawn.

The movie did not impress me much the first time. Then I went back to just watch the movie, not try and see the book on the screen. The second time went much better and by the third I basically just concentrated on Rob Patz’ beautiful face (and pretty much perfect Edward, based on a limited script). I also have what is likely an illegal crush on Taylor Lautner, and am thrilled he was cast for Jacob in the next movie.

I go back to work Feb 2, and all I have to say is thank got these books & movie happened to me while I was on leave, or I might have just gotten fired.

Thanks for the intro, and for still being a little bit nuts about it so I don’t feel so bad.

  35. Cindy says:

Crap… I got so wrapped up in Twilight I forgot to mention that I am also a big fan of Dr. Horrible & love your new banner, AND NPH rocked my world on SNL. How I Met Your Mother revolves around his character (finally) and all is right with the world. I especially enjoyed him making fun of his own character on Rent. Awesome.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
