In Case You’re Sad

I’ve read quite a few of sad posts in the last few days. Sad news, sad moods, sad, sad, sad. It’s that time of year – The holidays are passed, cold has come, the noses are running and the skies are gray. And then, it just seems, bad new abounds. Layoffs, illness, and tragically I’ve read about several too-soon deaths. My friends are sad and there’s nothing I can do or say to really make it better for anyone. So…I’m going to put up a funny... Read More

Pushing For The Change I Can Believe In

I’ve not gotten political around her since the election, but outside of this blog? I’ve actually gotten more political than ever in my life. I’ve been emailing my senators and my congressmen since the 111th Congress opened because for the first time in my LIFE, I’m inspired to be part of the Change we can Believe in. I’m educating myself and I’m voicing my opinions. Not just to my husband over dinner, but to my Congressman. To my Senators. To... Read More

The Secret Life Of Teens

Intoxicating cuteness to counterbalance an entry that forces me to think back to my junior high years. Over the years as my oldest gets older (which, you know, is what they tend to do) I’m getting a new glimpse into the minds of teenagers. Both through my eyes while interacting with him myself, but also through his eyes as he interacts with others. And if I have learned anything it’s this: Things Are Different. I don’t know if it’s because of the gender... Read More

AndyZ Eats! NikkiZ Still Doesn’t!

Sunflower, pictured above, has this weird thing that she totally thinks she’s hiding in situations like this. She’ll get under something like a table, or behind something like a chair, and think that because there is a physical item between you and her – that you can’t see her. She’s insane. In case you were wondering. In non-cat news…AndyZ is turning out to be a much better food-eater than his sister. He actually eats most foods you put... Read More

The Sleeping Update

The sleeping. It is not any better. Luckily, the cuteness is still intoxicating. We tried putting AndyZ in the crib once or twice recently, but he just screams bloody murder until we get him out. And while some parenting techniques walk you through letting babies cry a bit to see if they learn to self-sooth, none of those techniques actually allow the parents to sit on their asses on the couch in the living room watching the newest episodes of “True Beauty.” These... Read More

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
