Exactly Why This Is Not A Craft Blog

I decided to try my hand (again) at making some hair clips for NikkiZ. I bought this really cute Princess ribbon on clearance and made this gem first.

Do you think it’s big enough? Bah. Not only is it WAAAY too big for her head but it’s also too big for the clip I put it on so it didn’t stay in hardly at all. And it’s also all crooked too. You’ll have to trust me on that one. So, I thought I’d try again with a smaller attempt.

That one turned out much better. BUT…it took me five failed attempts to even get this one kinda-decent product. I ruined more ribbon than I used times five. Essentially? This hairbow cost me about $20 to make. Do you think it’s worth $20? I think not.

Luckily, Ronda turned me onto this Etsy store. I have never seen such cute hairbows in my ENTIRE LIFE. I think this butterfly has to be my favorite. Do you think she left a wake of ribbon-carnage behind her when she was making that one? Probably not.

And if not for Etsy, I also have another solution. Just tie the damn ribbons in her hair. Even I can manage that.

I try the whole having it tied round my head but I think I have a funny shaped head so it permanently falls off lol

Another Etsy store with adorable hair clips is Pink Owl Creations (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5169798). My stepdaughter LOVES their clips.

Heh, “ribbon carnage.” But you’ve got mad braiding skillz, yes? So you don’t even really need the cute ribbons! That second one is adorable, though.

I think your hairbows look pretty good.

The Etsy stores bow are gorgeous.

If you would like instructions on how to make simple, but beutiful hair bows, let me know. I used to make gorgeous ones for my niece when she was little.

P.S. She likely doesn’t leave ribbon carnage now, but she probably did when she first started. I think you could do it, but if you don’t want to I would be happy to do it for you.

The first one had to be big…so everyone would know she was a princess. Just in case they had forgotten. :) That second one turned out nice!! I am going to attempt the craft business this weekend, working some more on my Mardi Gras costume, that is store bought. I may ruin the whole thing.

You are so talented for even TRYING a feat like this. I can barely tie my shoes some days :)

    Zoot…

Here’s another Etsy store with great ribbons/bows and even better customer service. She did FREE gift wrapping for me and the bows are fantastic. That said, I agree with the other posters who have commended you for even trying–amazing!

Another etsy store with cute hair bows is AJsBowtique.etsy.com , she also makes adorable handmade skirts!

  10. Hehe…I can’t do it either. My friend, Holly, makes really cool bows and you can choose all sorts of different combinations. She even made Obama bows for her daughter (used the Obama Hope poster on a bottlecap for the middle). And she donates some of the profit to a charity that helps orphans (started by another mom who adopted from Guatemala) http://www.kickassbows.com/

Zoot – you know I got nothing but love for ya….but that first bow sucks. LOL You are so awesome at so many things – but leave the bow-making to the professionals at Etsy’s.

I was totally laughing when I wrote my last comment….but now that I see it posted I am afraid you will not know I was teasing you! As in, I was laughing WITH you not at you!!!!

I would never post anything mean….

When I first saw that Etsy link I thought, “no, I’m not gonna click it”, because every time I go to Etsy I get lost for HOURS in there. But I did it anyways….and left the window open while I comment here, so I can go back and get lost for hours.

Also? Now I need to get me some grandchildren because my teenaged daughters will not appreciate ladybug and frog hairclips for their hair and I really, really need to buy those now that I’ve seen them.

I make all of my daughters bows. I get the ideas and instructions from this website. Super easy step by steps! http://www.bowdesigns.50webs.com

I love the bows – I think they’re cute! I even like the way too big princess one.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
