A Weekend in Photos

DSC_0325

How funny is that picture? We finally got a double stroller, now that AndyZ is big enough to sit in one. This was their first time sitting in it so I took their picture. Do you see Lil’Girl in the background sticking her head through the hole in one of her blankets? That’s how a blanket is determined to be a “Dog Blanket” – when Sweetie chews a hole in it. Once it gets christened, we leave it out for the dogs to sleep with. Inevitably Lil’Girl, the one who sleeps under the blankets, ends up wearing one of them like a poncho. As seen here.

And please disregard my daughter’s color choices in wardrobe. She’s colorblind. Or something.

AndyZ’s head is getting to big for his hat, but it’s still cold enough outside that he needs one so I set out to find him a bigger one this weekend. And you know what? NO ONE HAS WINTER GEAR ANYMORE. What is up with that? Everyone is selling spring clothing and bathing suits now. No gloves, no hats, no scarves. I found that hat in the Toddler section at Babies R Us. It was on the clearance rack (Yay!) but it’s a size 4T. I got it anyway because it’s better than nothing. But seriously – it’s still February for chrissakes. Please keep some of the winter gear out.

Of course – this weekend was warm enough for us to be outside without our winter gear. We went to the park and played around and AndyZ had his first experience in a swing! He loved it – until his sister thought it would be a good idea to push him herself. Then he saw his very short life flash before his eyes as his mother sat there laughing. She’s evil – you know.

Someone is sitting in a big-boy chair for dinner time now! No…not MrZ…AndyZ! How cute is he all grown up? And NikkiZ didn’t mind giving up her booster because she got to sit on something even better…a PHONE BOOK. And do you know why that’s awesome? Because Mom made it sound AWESOME. That’s a parenting trick – you know. Act uber-excited about something so your kids think they’re getting a prize instead of…the shaft.

All in all? A great weekend. How was yours?

The first thing I noticed in the first photo was Lil’ Girl. :-)

    I love the last photo. It’s 3D.

I worked all weekend and my *ss is dragging.

  2. Sarah Lena says:

Dude, seriously on the winter gear crap. I had to stop a Target employee a week or so ago, when we had that 9 degree cold snap, and ask where they were keeping the coats. She looked around and pointed: “We don’t have coats. We’re stocking swimwear now.”

    DUDE, IT’S NINE DEGREES OUTSIDE.

  3. Sandy says:

I didn’t notice Lil’ Girl till you mentioned it. So cute!

NikkiZ is looking so big and grownup in the pictures of her and AndyZ!

  4. Hilary says:

I love the last picture the most- too cute! Sounds like a good, low-key weekend, same over here. Only too short, as always.

  5. Little Dutch Girl says:

I love NikkiZ’s color choice, red and orange go really well together, I think. And i also love the last picture, with two kids myself, it is hard to get good picture of the two of them and this is too cute

  6. danelle says:

The thrift stores are loaded with winter gear!

  7. Amanda says:

How cute are they? I love the last photo!

I learned my lesson a long time ago on winter gear. My DH has a birthday in Feb. and I went to buy him some winter clothing about a week before. Couldn’t find anything at all. Now I shop for him in December instead. I don’t know who thought up these rules but they need to change.

Our weekend was short. My little one slept from 8:15pm until 3:45 this morning so yeah, mama is happy! She ate then went back to sleep until I had to wake her. That probably means tonight she’ll be up every hour, but for now I take what I can get.

  8. This is a prime example of what I wrote about you in my blog! Here is a linky http://www.graceguinevere.com/blog/2009/02/im-a-recovering-serial-blogamist.html (please excuse THE MESS that is the site, I’ve not properly cleaned it up yet)

You have such a nice family. I hope to have one like it one day.

  9. Eliza says:

At least you put the phonebook to good use. I had to teach my teens to use one the other day when our internet was down.

  10. Swistle says:

Those are some of your best photos ever. The new hat is TEH CUTEST. He’s such a big boy sitting at the TABLE! And that last photo is…well, is the dog TASTING that baby’s FEET?

  11. Sierra says:

that last photo is just too. awesome.

  12. stacey says:

Lil Girl doesn’t look real!! Almost like ET in with all the dolls. Those kids are getting so so so cute!!

  13. Fraulein N says:

I love how your dogs always have to get in on the action. I had totally forgotten that my younger brother used to sit on phone books to reach the table too. I guess I did too, but I don’t remember.

  14. SupaCoo says:

Wait, people still have phonebooks? After the invention of the Internet? Whoa.

    Great pics, though!

  15. I am so glad you pointed out the dog head poking out of the blanket. I totally would have missed it, and to be honest, it just made my day.

  16. Beachgal says:

These pictures made my day better. Thank you.

  17. Shelly says:

I always have that problem in the summer. In July, they get rid of all the swim gear, shorts, etc. Which is fine, except that it will be hot here in Austin until at least mid-October.

  18. Elizabeth says:

I agree with Sandy: In pictures with AndyZ, NikkiZ looks sooo grown up! (I know it must surprise you, because, duh, she’s your daughter, but as a long-time reader, it kinda freaks me out.)

  19. Zandor says:

Those pictures are great. I like the second one with the hat a lot.

  20. PomJob says:

The Easter candy I saw yesterday at the grocery store almost made me cry a little. Too soon!!!

  21. Gretchen says:

Wow, that last picture has 4 of the exact same eyes. What a great weekend. Good weather and healthy kids, those don’t happen too often this time of year. Glad you got to enjoy it.

  22. Sara says:

Until I took a second look and saw the toy in his hand (I was blinded by the orange-and-red), I thought AndyZ had a deathgrip on NikkieZ. Kind of a “Whoa there, I’m not so sure about this thing, Sissie.” At least that’s what the look on his face says to me.

That hat is adorable. I’m curious as to how long it actually stayed on his head before he pulled it off.

  23. Alberto says:

I like a lot the last picture of this entry. I believe it’s a classic exemple of a candid photo. A little light to my taste, but in the exact moment.

  24. Nynke says:

    Your kids are too cute!
Completely off topic: I totally thought that the birds at the bottom of your posts were bikini tops at first…. My wish for summer is affecting my powers of observation…..

  25. supertiff says:

if i could get a guarantee that my kids would be as adorable as yours, i’d start popping them out right now. seriously, they are too cute.

  26. Jules says:

    You have outrageously adorable children!

  27. Juls says:

I have to agree with “Jules” (name spelled correctly): Your kids are adorable. I especially like the last photo.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
