Things That Have Happened Recently I’ve Forgotten To Tell You About

DSC_0444
  • My son turned into a man. What is up with this picture? Is it just me or does he look 5 years older wearing a tie? This pictures makes my heart ache because there is no way I’m old enough to be a mother to that kid. RIGHT? He won’t be going to high school next year, will he? Please tell me he won’t. PLEASE.
  • My daughter has become obsessed with “Pwawms.” (Poems.) It started when I read some Shel Silverstein to her class a few weeks ago. She was going through some books I brought home from Dad’s and I pointed out that most of them were poetry books because Papaw loved pwawms. She was very excited to discover that since she loves pwawms too. So, she has taken it upon herself to carry around one of his pwawm books everywhere she goes. Can you guess which one it is? A collection of pwawms written by Edgar Allen Poe. Cutest thing EVER seeing her carry that book around.
  • MrZ is leaving the company he currently works for to start working for the company that one of my best friends works for. This makes me very jealous. While I have no desire to do that type of work again, I’m kinda jealous that they’re going to have all of this fun without me. Of course, who am I kidding? How could they possibly have fun without me around? RIGHT?
  • Two of the Young Adult series’ I read have had new additions released recently. While I bought them each faithfully, I still haven’t had a chance to read them yet. And this makes me sad. I have the most reason of the James Patterson Maximum Ride books and, of course, the new 13th Reality book. The Hunt for Dark Infinity. One of these days I’m going to sneak away from all of my responsibilities and read both of those books.
  • I’ve been trying to catch up on my television and am failing miserably. I’ve started essentially fast-forwarding through shows so that I at least know what happens at key points. I watched the 2-hour Biggest Loser episode last night in 15 minutes. Turns out? You don’t miss that much when you do it that way with a reality TV show. But if you do the same thing with Medium? You’ll find yourself very confused.

What about you? What’s been going on in your life?

wow. really. who is that guy in that picture?? Kids need to stop growing.

I love that Nikki is all about poems right now, hopefully that will carry on and on for years to come!! :)

I don’t start watching Biggest Loser when it comes on, so I can fast forward. It is good. Um…you watched last nights right? actually the last two weeks have been WHAAAT??? crazy.

Going to meet my sweet new niece for the first time this weekend. So excited!! But I hear it is going to storm in Phoenix all weekend.

LilZ totally looks like an IT guy in that photo. I’m not that big on pwawms, but I love when kids are into books. So awesome.

The biggest thing I’ve got going on right now is that I’ve started Weight Watchers.

  3. We are moving in a week (just a few blocks) but I’ve rediscovered how stressful it is to pack up your life into a cardboard box. Argh!

  4. Janet says:

I really like Medium so much!

  5. Bonnie says:

You didn’t have to put the word poems in parens. In my head I read your blog with a southern drawl. I knew what pwawms was immediately when I read it.

  6. Elaine says:

Yeah, LilZ looks like he’d fit right into a high school, only we both know that’s a LONG TIME from now. Heh. And I must say that while NikkiZ pretty much always looks adorable (except when she’s making evil spawn faces of course) the polka dots are extra delicious. I think it’s ridiculously cute that she’s carrying around a book of Poe. Poems. As for me, I just found out the military is sending me to Puerto Rico, NEXT MONTH, so I’ve been trying to clean my apartment and purge my stuff and get all the logistics sorted out, and my personal life has been shot to heck because of it.

Your daughter has great timing since April is National Poetry Month! And now I’m inspired to drag out MY book of Poe and carry it around with me! I’d almost forgotten how much I enjoy his work.

  8. Jessica says:

I do have to agree with you, LilZ does look like a grown man with the tie and dress shirt on. Definitely maturing into a high schooler that will soon be *gasp* driving and going to prom. He looks very nice.

  9. Julie says:

Who is that man, and why is he holding your baby? :b

In the kids growing up department, I recently bought the girl child her first bras and taught her how to shave her legs. Gah. Next thing you know she will be wanting to go out with a boy or something.

The boy child has started meds for ADHD. Fingers crossed that it helps.

  10. Wacky Mommy says:

Sweet picture. Some guys just look sharp in ties, don’t they?

I think NikkiZ needs to join LibraryThing.

I cannot believe that LilZ is so grown up! And Nikki Z, fugeddaboudit! I know those very feelings that you’re having about LilZ as my baby is graduating from high school in 7 weeks and counting. WHERE DID MY BABY GO??? Waaaaaa!!

I’ve been wanting to read the Maximum Ride books for a couple of years. I bought them for my niece and thought they looked pretty neat.

First time commenting, long time reader :)

That is such a great photo – and HS already?
    yeesh
    the time goes by fast

soon you will catch yourself saying, when i was your age……

    Pwawms are awesome….
The only problem with speed watching Top Chef was missing out on seeing the pretty food…..
I like looking at the pretty food…… :(

Thanks for all the awesome reading….!!! I have enjoyed your blog quite a bit :)

  13. SupaCoo says:

Love the thought of your little dollface cutie pie walking around with Edgar Allen Poe. So. Hilarious!

  14. So what’s NikkiZ’s favorite Poe Poem? Annabel Lee? The Raven? Do tell…

  15. Gayle says:

My Lord, how did that boy grow up so fast! He sure is good looking. But then all your kids are.

  16. Kelly says:

Somehow, I read “Mr Z is leaving the country he works for…” and reread it and got the same thing. I was so confused I had to walk away from my desk. When I got back, I realized the word was “company” and now all is well.

One of my best friend’s sons starts high school next year. He was this short, chubby boy and, I swear to you, in the last two weeks, he has grown into the tallest, skinniest person in the family. It is still weird seeing him.

  17. Rhi says:

I think we all really need to hear NikkiZ pronounce pwawms.

  18. stace says:

i hate not being able to see your pix at work! :(

you’re right, it will be impossible to have fun w/out YOU! i promise we always try here though! he might not like the level or goofiness he’s about to walk in to!

  19. Sandy says:

Love the pictures. Yes, the tie does make he look older. Kids just grow up so fast!

  20. Maria says:

I left you a comment on the LilZ photo, so you know I had the same reaction you did.

We need some photos of NikkiZ reading the poems. :-)

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
