My story.

Dear Emmie, It’s very hard to be young and pregnant. You are at a difficult point in your life facing tough decisions. I will not presume to know what’s best for you – so I’ll just tell you my story. I was 18 and terrified and knew absolutely nothing about being a grown-up, much less a Mom. I am now a very proud mother to a very wonderful 14-year old who I often declare is my best friend. But it wasn’t easy. I entered into a marriage with the father... Read More

My Own Stress As A Working Mom

Edited to add: Recently this entry was linked to as saying that I think some Moms have it harder than others. PLEASE READ THIS ENTRY. If someone interpreted this entry to mean that, I apologize, but I don’t think I said that at all. I hope you’ll read the whole thing to see that. As a matter of fact, I feel like I said just the opposite. I said you can’t compare situations. Please read this entire entry before you make a judgment because I would never EVER... Read More

What’s Wrong With The Bandwagon?

What? You don’t Twitter? Are you KRAZEE? When I went off to college I learned the hard way that some things just weren’t cool anymore. Or at least not in the groups I was trying to infiltrate. (Any group that had a hacky sack.) Like Top 40 radio. Or television. Or even shaving. (Yes. I hung out in those circles.) While I dropped the Top 40 radio and the television (was not much of a TV watcher to begin with, if you can believe that) – I kept shaving. It was... Read More

Why Write Thought Provoking Posts When You Can Just Do Bullets?

I’ve got all of these things I’ve been wanting to write about lately. Profound and thought provoking entries about lots of profound and thought provoking things. Sounds awesome, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, every time I sit down at the laptop I feel tired and unable to type more than 4 sentences of coherent thought. This means tonight? You’re getting bullets. Finally finished James Dashner’s latest book in the 13th reality series: The Hunt for Dark... Read More

Beyond The Scope Of A Morning Person

Wow. Is it Monday already? I’m finding it very difficult to maintain a healthy level of sanity this last week or two. The major reason for this casual level of kookiness is that my son, the little one, has adopted an new sleep schedule. What I thought was just a day or two worth of torture, I’ve finally accepted is just his new lifestyle. It’s called “Up by 5am.” I’ve heard this behavior warrants jailtime in some society, and I’m considering... Read More

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
