Oh, How I Love Thee Harry Potter!
We have a winner! Therese won our contest and she declared Sorcerer’s Stone as her favorite as it opened up the world of Harry Potter to her. I’ll be emailing her to see what version of the audiobook she’d like. Now…my turn to respond!
I can’t! Why do you think I asked you to tell me your favorite? Because I can NOT. I agree that Sorcerer’s Stone is the one that started it all…and it therefore holds a certain special spot in my heart. However, for my favorite? I would have to choose THREE.
Goblet of Fire: The net between the dualing swords of Harry’s and Voldemort is one of my favorite of all the books. As Harry realizes that his Mom will reveal herself in the web, my heart stops every time. And Cedric requesting that Harry bring back his body? EEK. From that point to the end of the book I was just mesmerized. Something about the realization that Voldemort is back and that no one is going to believe him. I love that book.
Half-Blood Prince: For all of the reasons you all stated. Mainly because suddenly the ancillary characters like Luna and Ginny and Neville all get to shine. Especially at the end when they’re part of the battle. I love when Harry realizes that Luna and Neville had probably been checking their coins for a DA meeting all along.
Deathly Hallows: Because it was exactly what I wanted in a series end. It could have only been better if had never ended.
And for those of you trailer hunting like I am in anticipation for next week’s movie release – have you noticed the changes? I’ve started picking up on a lot of them in interviews with the cast members and in disections of trailers. And I just want to go on record saying: I’m fine with that. I try to separate the movies and the books as much as possible. Of course I’m sad when they leave out my favorite parts, but I understand that weaving these thick stories to fit a 2-hour time frame has got to be near impossible. I have enjoyed all of the movies as much as the books simply because I avoid comparing the two. I do everything I can to keep them separate so I can enjoy them both.
And also – let’s be realistic. I love these books so much that there is no way I could ever criticize anything associated with them. I’m kinda stubborn like that.

So nice of you to share the love. And congrats Therese!
I love all things Harry Potter, too, and I don’t think I could pick a favorite either. I can’t wait to see the latest movie, but then I will be crazy with anticipation waiting for the next. I am glad they are splitting the last book, rather than cut anything important, but the wait will kill me.
I always view the movies as a mere complement (and compliment!) to the books. I try not to get bummed about missing pieces. Try.
Congratulations to Therese!
In the spirit of all things sour grapes, I will just take solace in the fact that the kids and I will be in line Sunday afternoon for a FREE showing of Half-Blood Prince here on base. Isn’t that *3* days before the actual release???
Are you serious, I actually won something? This is awesome. My birthday is Friday, it’s like an extra great present! Yeah and thanks!
I haven’t been watching the previews. Because somehow I don’t want to “spoil” the movie? I mean it isn’t like I don’t know what happens…but still I think I have caught the first one and that may be it. Do you realize that by this time next week? We will have already seen it???
I never had time to comment yesterday, so I’m coming here late to say – we LOVE Jim Dale, too. He has totally spoiled us and we no longer successfully listen to fiction audiobooks. (I can still do the read by the author thing for nonfiction. My favorite is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.)
Yeah, Jim Dale is awesome. As a post-script to what I wrote yesterday, I really think my favorite book is whatever happens to be in my hands at the time!
Confession: I have a total literary nerd crush on Neville.
I’d have to say Order of the Phoenix was my favorite. I couldn’t wait for Dolores Umbridge to get what she had coming!
I love them all but I suppose Deathly Hallows was my favorite. I did feel sad that the story ended though. I hope she writes another some day!
I’ve never watched a Harry Potter movie. I’ve never read a Harry Potter book. I don’t know anything about it. Him. It.
I just wanted to say thanks for reading my blog. Or at least pretending you do and just adding me to your RSS reader. I don’t know why you’d do that though, that doesn’t make sense. But then again, the interwebs is a silly place.
That’s all for now. I need to go spend 4 minutes writing a blog post. Okay, maybe 5 this time. So bye.
Tyler
Confession here. Although we have both books. I didn’t read the final two. I got really sad when Sirus died and Harry was left alone without a guardian.
Sensitive, me, yes.
I also didn’t watch Buffy much after her mother died although before that I was avid fan. (Too much sad stuff was going on in my life at the time).
Congrats, Therese! Now, to count the minutes til the movie opens.
Well, EFF! I take a two-day vacation from the Interweb and you give away a Harry Potter audiobook?! Two things I love! Harry Potter! Audiobooks! And I missed it? EFF! EFF! EFF!
