You know someone knows you very well when they leave this waiting for you at your front door on the morning of your birthday.
This is me. 34 years ago today. I do not think it could be more obvious when I was born from my Dad’s hair than if someone had written 1975 across my forehead upon delivery. If there was any doubt where all of my curl came from, this picture would settle the debate.
I’m planning on really treating myself today. I’ve never done this before, but I’m going to spend the day…shopping. While I have succeeded in losing a little bit of weight (10lbs down, 25 to go!) – it’s more about finally trying to just find a good style for myself. I feel like if I tried a little harder, I might feel a little better about myself regardless of my weight. I know my goal is to keep losing weight, but since I’m losing it at a slow (and healthy!) pace, then I don’t think there’s any harm in trying to dress this body a little better. I’m going to force myself to go into stores I’ve never bought clothes from, but that won’t be hard since I buy everything from Target and Old Navy. I’m going to not look at the price tag before I try it on and only decide if it’s worth it after I’ve seen myself in it. I’m going to try to think more about quality and less about price. Most importantly? I just want to end the day with a few outfits that make me feel…pretty. And I’m doing it alone. Giving me all the time in the world.
It will probably be the BEST DAY EVER. Seriously.
And how will I end this day? In a movie theater, ticking away the minutes before the midnight premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Waking up to Diet Coke on my front stoop and ending the day watching Harry Potter? 34 is already looking to be better than 33 – which sucked giant donkey balls.

I so need that day of shopping. I’m right there with on shopping from Target & Old Navy. I turn 38 in 3 weeks. Maybe I’ll do it then but probably not. LOL

We ended up not going to the free early showing of HP this weekend… my boys want to take in the midnight show tonight, but I don’t think I can stay awake that late and still drive home at 2:30 in the morning. I’m thinking of taking in the 9am show tomorrow.

I knew I had two sizes left to loose, but I felt icky and had no motivation. after buying myself some pretty clothes that made me feel good about my body at the time, I found new motivation and reached my goal before summer started. plus, I really did finally start to feel really good about myself. I’m all for treating yourself on birthdays in general, and yep, Lynne’s right, so treating yourself especially well on the first birthday without your dad is even more necessary, IMO. I also agree with the idea that dressing better can make people feel better, and further good things can arise from that, so it’s a win-win all around.
