It Always Comes Back To The Cleats

I miss my Dad. When I was little, somehow my Dad discovered AYSO as an activity for my brother and I. Since soccer wasn’t cool yet, there was a huge shortage of knowledgeable parents and coaches. My Dad decided to coach. He knew nothing about soccer before that, but like with anything else he focused on, he became an expert. It may shock you to know…I am not athletically inclined. AT ALL. But still, he coached me for several years. I’m thinking at least from... Read More

The Spectrum of Free-Range Parenting

When I was small, I saw the movie Adam. It was the cinematic recreation of the Adam Walsh kidnapping and murder. I was young when I saw it…quite young I think. But I still remember the scene of his Mom roaming the store screaming his name, “Adam!” like I watched it before bed last night. When LilZ was small, I was very strict when we went to stores that he should NEVER LEAVE MY SIGHT. And he really never did. The few times he might have turned the corner of an... Read More

Mysteries of My Universe

Why does this photo crack me up so much? Is it because it’s such a real depiction of my youngest two kids? Greasy. Dirty. Worn out. Shoeless. And pigging out on Ritz Bits. Hee. Why does my lab-mix, Sweetie, harass me to let her outside by scratching at the door or whining at my feet. And then, after I let her out, she immediately turns around and scratches at the door to come back in? I know she’s neurotic…but does she have to be annoying too? Why does my... Read More

Rash-Tastic!

Or…Why You Should Totally Be Following Me On Twitter So. It started the first morning of vacation with this tweet, “Nothing like having to google walk-in clinics in the first morning o vacation bc your child is covered in hives!” And it continued with me and my lack of internet pleading with Twitter to help me find a walk-in clinic near our beach house that was open on Sundays. We finally found one and hit the road for the 30 minute drive. AndyZ was covered head... Read More

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
