Prep Time

Today is FINALLY the day. Let’s hope. The day they get cut out of my jaw once and for all. I’ve already discussed with my brother and he agreed that if anything cancels this appointment, he’s going to bring a vice grip and some pliers and take care of it himself. And I am very okay with that. Between the pain that was so bad the other night that I considered breaking my own arm in an attempt to get real pain medication (Hydrocodone evidently doesn’t do much for this type of pain) and the swelling that has me looking like that guy from House last night…I’m beyond ready to get these things OUT ALREADY.

I spent yesterday getting the family ready for me to be out of commission today. I did all the laundry, cleaned bathrooms, baked zucchini bread (I know!), set the DVRs and packed lunches. I made arrangements for soccer games and carpool. I laid out uniforms and warmer clothes for the kids so that MrZ won’t have to dig through the drawers if it’s a little chilly tonight. I put a sign on the door that says, “Don’t Forget Water For Soccer” so to avoid getting in trouble again. As I did this I thought about so many of you who will inevitably mention similar habits. I feel like I know you all well and know you are like me. If you go out of town or are disabled for any way, you do everything you can to make the lives easier of those left in charge. Whether it’s a spouse or a friend or another family member. Heaven forbid we leave them to not only feed the kids but also have to decide WHAT to feed them! We do everything we can to make sure the work we do continues to be done even if we’re not able to do it ourselves. And you know what? That makes us damn awesome.

I think I kinda want a wife.

I do the same thing when I am going to be away, thinking it will make life easier for whomever is left in charge. My husband says it is not being helpful, its being a control freak! So unappreciative!

  2. Danielle says:

Good luck today! I hope you have a speedy recovery.

  3. Your Mom says:

Good luck honey. I love you

  4. Han says:

I was about to say “Thats the kinda thing my Mum does for us!” Even now when I’ve moved out somedays when I’m too tired to think I call her and she talks me through what I need to do (yeah okay it sounds really childish but it’s not often and it’s usually when I’m so at my wits end that I need help lol)

  5. ladybughugs says:

Good luck today. Just remember it sounds worse than it is and by next week your pain will be ancient history!

  6. Cheryl says:

I’ve said for years that I want a wife. Especially between mid-November and January.

  7. bad penguin says:

Hydrocodone is pretty much the most worthless painkiller ever. All it ever does is make me sick to my stomach and leave me still in pain.

    Good luck today!

  8. stacey says:

You are going to do great!!! I hope the fam takes care of YOU today!!

  9. Sandy says:

Good luck today! See by your tweet post it didn’t get cancelled.

I had 13 teeth pulled and two implants put in the bottom last week and it went a LOT better than I thought. Even the figuring out what to eat now is beginning to go better.

Just rest all day today, and you should feel better tomorrow.

  10. LaLuna says:

Good luck today. Here’s to REAL pain medicine after surgery! Let your family take care of you today.

  11. Jessica says:

Good luck today. I promise you will feel infinitely better in the long run. And yes, I need a wife too :)

  12. marty says:

I’ll be thinking about you today. Hope everything goes smoothly and that you are pain free and eating ice cream tomorrow!

  13. heidi says:

Good luck today. This will soon be over. In other news, I think I am the only wife/mother that does not prepare before leaving/being out of commission. I can barely keep up as it is and figure my husband can take care of it all himself – if not exactly how I would do it – well enough. Gah! I’m a horrible wife/mother.

  14. SupaCoo says:

I don’t want just ANY wife, I want YOU for a wife. You’re amazing! Good luck with your teefs today… it’s all downhill from here!

  15. Heather says:

Hope everything goes smoothly, and you have a speedy recovery with lots of pampering.

  16. You’re awesome! I think I would’ve just written the number for Pizza Hut on a Post-It and then camped outside the oral surgeon’s office. :) Good luck! I know (some) of the pain of which you speak and I’m excited you’ll soon feel better! :)

  17. MissB says:

heck ya! I’m not even officially a wife yet and I do all those things! We rock

    good luck today.

(I totally loved House and am equally excited about next week as NCIS. But! N!C!I!S!!!!!!!)

  18. bzmomma says:

Hope everything went well and that you’ll have a pain free future.

YES, we need to clone ourselves!

  19. Jen Ambrose says:

I know, right? Sometimes, I think those people on Big Love may be onto something. Because sometimes, I think I really could use a second wife.

  20. William says:

I hope it is all painless.

Your last line cracked me up.

  21. Brenda says:

I do the same thing. I had surgery mid-August and had everything set up for 2 weeks. It all went well except when I had to have a minor follow up procedure done and forgot to send a note to my daughter’s teacher–thank goodness my sister was on the ball.
Hope you are feeling so much better!!

  22. Bobbie says:

My recommendation for something to eat in the next couple of days: mashed potatoes with gravy (warm, not hot). Boston Market is my preference, but don’t know if you have that down South.

Hope the worst is behind you.

  23. Jo says:

HA HA! Amen sista! We all do it…

Hope you are well and by the time you read these- feeling good. Best wishes for a fast, pain free recovery.

  24. Elaine says:

Oops, I forgot to comment yesterday! I hope it went well and that you are recovering nicely with your feet propped up somewhere and lots of good (or bad) tv on to entertain you while other people wait on you like a princess. :)

Have a speedy recovery with lots of beer!!~

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
