Blind Loyalty To A Book Written FOR TEENAGERS.

I had an alert set up in my iPhone calendar last week to remind me that the New Moon Movie Companion was released. I have poured over it since that day memorizing and loving every detail in the photos and the descriptions. I have an obsession with film/television production anyway…add in my obsession with all things Twilight and I found every page fascinating and entertaining. LOVE IT.

But…of course I would. It’s Twilight.

There are a few things in my life I find myself incredibly and often blindly loyal towards. Twilight is one of them. I’ve heard all of the criticisms of the first film and while I agree with a lot of it (special effects FAIL!) I will always qualify it with, “but they were very low budget with production, they didn’t realize how big it would be!” You know…because it’s my job to defend it? For some reason?

I was talking to my sister-in-law about that this weekend as she was telling the story of doing the same thing – finding herself feeling the need to defend it to someone who was harshly critiquing the movie. Of course, she doesn’t quite take it to the extreme that I do (does anyone?) but she still agreed to feeling blindly loyal.

It’s funny…I kinda take it personally when people criticize things like Twilight or Harry Potter because I feel this odd sense of ownership with these items. Like they belong to me somehow…I’ll defend them past the point of logic. It’s not that I can’t recognize faults with these franchises…because I can. I hate Jasper’s hair in New Moon, I hate that a certain location was destroyed in the last Harry Potter movie that was not destroyed in the books. But I criticize them the same way I do my children…with love and adoration. BECAUSE I AM INSANE.

My point? The New Moon comes out in a month and I can not get enough. It is time for the stars to make the media circuits and the magazine covers, there are interviews and special reports and I am EATING IT ALL UP.

Please tell me I am not alone…or if I am, please pretend that I’m not…okay?

Obsessed Much?

Um, no. You’re not. I have about a half dozen friends at church that are madly planning a “midnight release” party for the 20th, as well as my best friend, who is drooling over the first movie and full series of books again so she’s ready.

And of course, that’s not to mention me… who just finished reading the books for the sldfkth time, am so entwined into Twilight fanfiction that it almost hurts, and may just, possibly, be planning on a Bella costume for Hallowe’en, including just having my hair dyed and a yummy pair of contacts purchased.

    Not alone. Just sayin’.

  2. BZMomma says:

Nope, absolutely NOT alone as I can’t wait to start buying all those magazines w/Twilight stars on the cover! Actually, I have you to blame for my Twilight obsession! It’s because of you I heard of these books in the first place!

  3. JenE in Indy says:

Not alone! I am starting to think I need an intervention over this. Loving all of it. I defend it to the hilt, too. Can’t wait until 11/19.

  4. Lane C says:

Oh Zoot! I think we might need to start a Twilight anaymous group. I am re-reading Breaking Dawn as we speak. Sometimes I dream about it…

Can’t believe I just admitted that!
    You are not alone!

  5. Han says:

I’m 23 and love it! Me and my friend had a whole debate over whether Bella should pick Edward or Jacob. We’re both in our Twenties.

  6. Heather says:

you are SO not alone. i’m a total twilight nerd too. we should start a support group.

  7. Jessica says:

My favorite part about Twilight is that I will talk to ANYONE about it. I don’t care if I know them or don’t or how long it’s been since I read the book, I MUST talk to them about it if they’ve read it. I sadly, cannot support or justify the movie because it was that bad, but I am hopeful for New Moon, and then talk right away about Jacob’s abs. HELLO!

  8. You are very most definitely not alone.

Maybe I should go watch the New Moon trailers again on YouTube now.

  9. Heather says:

I’m excited for New Moon even though it looks horribly cheesy. Because that’s apparently just how it goes!

  10. Jo says:

I am SOO there with you on Harry! I’m working on the Twilight thing… I’ve read all the books, twice. I’ve seen the first movie, I’ll see the second movie, eventually. I just don’t think I’ll wait in line.

But no movie on earth has ever lived up to a great book… it just can’t!

  11. Margaret says:

Not alone. Not even a little bit.

Four of my female coworkers, and the girlfriend of one of my male coworkers, are all now in love with the Twilight books due to my loaning them the series. I consider it a job well done, mwa ha.

Love the books. Love the first movie. Love the first soundtrack. Love Edward. (And I’m 38!)

  12. Misti says:

You’re absolutely not alone! I’ve read the series at least 3 times & will definitely be in line to see New Moon on opening night.

I feel the same way you do about feeling the need to defend it against critics. No, the movie wasn’t the best, but it was great anyway.

  13. Secha says:

You should have seen me over the weekend when we went to see Zombieland. The second the trailer for New Moon came on? I stopped my conversation and stared intently at the screen. Everyone we were with laughed at me, but I didn’t care. New Moon comes the day after my birthday, so you better believe that is my birthday present to myself!!

  14. Fraulein N says:

I don’t know if I’m loyal to fandoms as much as I am to actors. If they’ve been in something I loved, or I just think they’re really awesome … I will watch whatever crap-ass thing they star in, and defend it to the hilt.

I am kind of tired of hearing about Twilight though, what with all the teenyboppers foaming at the mouth over it, plus all of the creepy Mormon parallels Meyer draws in the books. I WILL be going to see New Moon in theaters, however.

  15. So not alone! I, too, hate Jasper’s hair in New Moon. They better have done/be doing something better for Eclipse!

(Seriously…how do they not see the FAIL that is the Jasper wig?)

  16. I am still fully obsessed and devoted to all things Twilight. It is magic!

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
