Bullets Of Random Thoughts That Might Indicate I’m Insane

  • You know what I want? One of those squiggly clear headphone thingies that these law enforcement guys on TV wear. I think Secret Service wears them too. I totally want one just to wear around to make people wonder who’s talking to me in my ear and if I’m someone super awesome and powerful. I think this would be especially awesome as I make funny faces to my son in the grocery cart at Publix. Where can I get one of those things? And if I sometimes put my finger to my ear and spoke to my wrist about “The Target” – would that freak people out?
  • I finally got rid of two pairs of Birkenstocks I’ve had for over 10 years. They finally fell apart beyond the point of repair or rescue. I cried as I disposed of them. They’ve seen me through many phase of my life. They had been with me longer than MrZ has been. Saying goodbye to them was heartbreaking. I become very attached to my shoes.
  • I’ve been thinking a lot about chex mix. And wondering…can you make something similar (obviously not called chex mix) but out of yummy unhealthy ingredients and cereals? Like stuff with marshmallows! Or fruit loops! Man. That would be good. I can’t figure out how to make it work, though. So I guess I’ll just go on eating it straight from the box with my hands instead of trying to find a way to make it into a legitimate snack.
  • You know what I love about the holiday season? Snowmen. Snowmen are my favorite holiday icon/symbol. I think that’s because we rarely ever see snow around here. I love snowglobes for the same reason. We used to have snow many moons ago, but not so much any more. Hence my infatuation with anything snow-related iconography. My point? I kinda want one of those giant inflatable snowmen to put in my front yard. Just thought I’d let you know.

I have a pair of Birkenstocks that are probably 15 years old that I CANNOT part with. I only wear them when I am painting now but just the thought of them brings back wonderful memories!

  2. Liv says:

Unhealthy things and cereals? Ummm…. rice crispy treats? And you can use any cereal you want… even Fruit Loops. I wouldn’t try Wheaties though. Oh, and Chex Muddy Buddies. Choc. chips melted with peanut butter, stir in Chex then shake it up with powdered sugar.

Speaking of peanut butter. How strict are you on the “no peanut butter before age 2″ rule?

  3. misty says:

have you ever made puppy chow? it’s dessert chex mix! it’s peanut butter, chocolate, chex, powdered sugar – super easy to make and super delicious. (I’ve been reading for ages and never felt I had anything really to contribute – of course NOW when it comes to making chex mix even more unhealthy I’ve got something worth saying! :) )

oooh have you tried that stuff called…wait, scratch that, misty just mentioned it. haha!! misty: you so smart!

  5. Julie says:

We make snack mix with Teddy Grahams, Cheerios, popcorn, M&Ms, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and … I can’t remember what else. Similar to puppy chow, I guess, but without the peanut butter. So yummy!

I loved your post about negativity, also, but am too lazy to comment in two different places. It’s a great attitude, and I aspire to be more like you.

  6. Tiffany says:

there is one with cheerios, m&m’s pretzels, chex mix, and I think peanuts but you could leave those out melt white chocolate and pour over and mix…..

  7. Holly says:

I like to mix Cheerios with chocolate chips, peanuts, and marshmallows. Yum.

  8. cagey says:

I love snowmen and snowglobes, too. LOVE.

Oh Kim, have you read the book “Snowmen at Christmas”?? It is one of my favorites – it has lovely rhymes and absolutely beautiful illustrations. I have “Snowmen at Night” on order, I can report back if it is just as lovely as “Snowmen at Christmas”. I also recommend the book “The Snow Globe Family”. I have a post brewing about these books anyway, where I will talk about them in greater detail. But truly, they are just lovely books.

  9. Jessica says:

I was going to say the same thing as Tiffany. We make some with chex, pretzel sticks, M&M’s and then coat it in white chocolate almond bark.

    It. Is. Heaven.

  10. Carrisa says:

Recently I thought I would make rice krispie treats with cocoa krispies. I forgot to take into account that regular rice krispies aren’t sweet and the cocoa ones are. Talk about a sugar overload. However, making them with Fruit Loops sounds heavenly. I guess one would just have to deal with the extra sweetness of it all.

One could also use cheerios instead of rice krispies.
Also golden grahams dipped in melted chocolate.

I have a YUM-O chex mix type recipe that you can add whatever you want to it. (I will email it to you tonight when I get home).

I have a t-shirt from when I went to visit the college I would eventually go to (I am the same age as you) that is completely thread bare and you can’t even read the name of the school on it anymore but I just can’t get rid of it.

  12. Heather says:

I am so over whatever childish fascination I had with snow ;) Especially when I have to drive in it. Ick.

  13. Sara says:

Not insane. Says the girl who lives in Georgia and also has 232543 snowman-themed Christmas decorations to pull out. The sparkly snowman soap dispenser? TOTALLY my favorite.

  14. Brenda says:

Here are a few of Kellogs Top 10 recipes. There are a few cereal ones in there. The Magic Cookie bars are so good (no cereal) and super easy to make. My 8 year old makes them by herself (I put them in and take them out of the oven).

  15. Brenda says:

I lied…my Magic cookie bar recipe doesn’t include cereal but theirs does.

  16. Jo says:

I LOVE snowmen! I started collecting them when I got married and now have so many that I have to rotate which ones I use from year to year!

    I think I need to find a new collection…. ;-)

  17. Jessie P. says:

Do you like Fruity Pebbles? We made Rice Crispy treats, but used Fruity Pebbles instead of the Rice Cripys. Sooo good! You could probably do the same with Cocoa Pebbles.

  18. Vicki says:

We make a snack mix with Golden Graham cereal, M&M’s, Peanuts, and raisins. It is so good and your kids will LOVE it!

Snowmen are also my favorite decoration for Christmas!! Walgreens has a light up snow man for the front yard for $19.99 and it is really cute.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
