What Are Your Thoughts On…

- …those Keurig brewer single cup coffee maker thingies? I’ve been thinking about replacing my coffee maker with one forever since I rarely drink a full pot anymore but the morning I try to make less? The mornings I want more. Also? Less messy. But the k-cups are kinda pricey, not sure how it all balances out. Do you have one? Your thoughts?
- …people who turn every news story into a way to pit Republicans against Democrats. I didn’t like it with Katrina I don’t like it with the Gulf Oil Disaster. You all know me…I’m as left/liberal as they come. But just like I didn’t use Katrina to bitch about Bush, I don’t want to use the Oil Spill to bitch either (a) About Obama if you’re one on side or (b) About Drilling/Oil use if you’re on the other side. Can’t we just talk about what we’re doing to fix this and not make it political? When did everything get POLITICAL all the time? I feel like since Bush got elected to a second term, the news climate changed and everything became political. Can’t we just have catastrophes that have the news outlets giving us information and ways to help without worrying about whether you’re red/blue or donkey/elephant or trying to decide what political party is truly at fault? It irritates me to no end. And for the record? It’s BP’s fault, let’s blame them.
- …the new Shrek and/or Toy Story? I love these series, and they’re done well, but I’m terrified they’re taking them too far. I’m actually scared to see Toy Story 3 for fear it will ruin one of my favorite movie families for me. I grew up imagining my toys were real so I DON’T WANT THESE MOVIES RUINED. Should I trust the creators and go into it with the confidence they wouldn’t do a third film if it were crap? What about Shrek? Will the same jokes finally get old now? (Because I’ll admit, the last Shrek? They got a little old.)
- …about the new Toms Wedges. I have a pair of Toms (that Donnie hates) and I love them. I have never owned a pair of wedges in my life. But these shoes? Are calling my name. I don’t know why since they’re so NOT ME, I’m a FLAT ON THE GROUND kinda girl. So why do these shoes speak to me?
- …of the word “Wheelbarrow.” When I posted that picture last night I had to look it up. I kinda was worried the word was “Wheel Barrel” for awhile. Luckily the smarter part of my brain wouldn’t let me use “Wheel Barrel” until I checked to see if “Wheelbarrow” might be the correct option. What the hell is a Wheel Barrel? But also…rolls off the tongue better than Wheelbarrow. I don’t know. It’s such an important issue, you know. Like the Gulf Oil Disaster.

i love my keurig! the cups can get pricey however if you have a bed, bath, and beyond in your area they are always sending out 20% off coupons and free $5 coupons, sign up on their website! and they have every type of single serve coffee available there!
Republicans vs Democrats: I think it’s a political thing – why take the blame when you can shift it to the other guy. Gulf Oil – I agree BP needs their butts kicked lol.
Wedges: they just work – as much as they are heels because they have the wedge you don’t feel like you are balancing on a post lol
1. I love those pod coffee makers. We don’t have one because we have a really nice coffee/espresso machine, but my parents have one and it is SO SO SO easy. No waste, no waiting to brew, no whole pot of coffee if you turn out not to like a flavor, and my mom gets the pods online for cheap. I think it’s still more expensive than regular ground coffee… but it might be worth the convenience.
2. Hate
3. Neutral… I would probably see the movie, but my guess is it will be a little past it’s expiration date.
4. HATE HATE HATE. I want to like those shoes, I really do, but I just can’t!
5. I knew it was wheelbarrow, but your right… wheel barrel sounds a lot better.
I love LOVE my keurig!!! The cups are a little pricey, but it is worth it to me to have a different flavor if I feel like it on my second cup. Plus there is no mess to clean up and I can have one cup and then if I don’t feel like more then there is no waste. Agreed, sign up on their website. They have EVERY flavor and you can earn points.
I want those wedges!!!!
I love my keurig, too! I debated for a long time about getting one. I am the only coffee drinker in my house, so most of the time I did without rather than brew a pot for just me. I finally broke down and got the keurig and I have never regretted it. I get the k-cups on Amazon using subscribe and save. They are usually having a special on something I like and it makes the price reasonable. You can always find the k-cups on sale somewhere.
I love the k-cups. They are pricey if you get them from kohls or something, but stick to ebay and amazon. You can get them for less than .50$ a k-cup. They had a 48 pack of Kona coffee k-cups for like 20$ the other day on amazon. That’s not a terrible price, I don’t think. Especially in comparison to the other places. Also? You can get the coffee maker for at least half the price on ebay, as well… I wish I would have known that before we bought my mother in laws coffee maker because of course she wanted the expensive one…
Those shoes are super cute! I hadn’t seen them before… and I agree – I’m getting tired of people blaming the politicians for the oil spill. It was a disaster, it happened, get over it and start cleaning up instead of talking law suits and who’s fault it was. Pointing fingers won’t get it fixed. Working on it, will.
I love my Keurig! It was so worth it because I usually only have time for one cup of coffee in the morning and it makes it so much easier. Plus there’s such little cleanup to it. I buy the k-cups on line, usually through coffeecow.com or coffeegiant.com. They constantly have them on sale and they always have buy 5 get 1 free type deals on them.
yes on the keurig – for all the coffee i was dumping when i would make a pot, the cost evens out in the end. i do the coupon at bed bath and beyond to get the best price… or there are some online places that do free shipping if you order 4-5 boxes at a time, and costs 1 cent more per pod than the bed bath and beyond way – ad in my mind that’s better, cuz i didn’t have to stop at the store.
-can’t stand politics for this reason
-no opinion formed
-wedges scare me for the same reasons you are hesitant.
-being originally from AL and now living amongst the yankees, there are a few words that i still worry about saying. pen/pin, wheelbarrow, and insurance are the biggies. =)
Yes, yes, yes on the Keurig. Best small appliance I ever bought. The K-cups can be pricey but there are a number of on line options. I like Shofee.com the best. The shoes are very cute and I’m considering them myself but need a second opinion from my shoe guru.
Have the Keurig and LOVE it! You don’t have to buy the disposable K-cups or use them everyday. I have a reusable one like this that allows me to fill it with my own coffee – http://www.amazon.com/Keurig-K-Cup-Reusable-Coffee-Filter/dp/B000DLB2FI
Also, the Bed Bath and Beyond in my area had the $95 ones on sale for $45 this week. I think Keurig is going to be coming out with a new “entry” model soon, so you may be able to find a good deal!
My Keurig is one of my favorite things EVER! I have the Platinum one you can buy at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and it is really nice. I use the My K-Cup everyday that other people mentioned and the throwaway K-Cups on special occasions.
I am too cheap to use them everyday.
Ha, I thought it was wheel barrel.
1-Love love love my Keurig. It’s a lot less expensive than buying Starbucks everyday, which is what I would do to avoid “wasting” a whole pot of coffee. Am smart.
2-Sigh. That whole process just makes me sad for all of us. Maybe I’ll brew a second cup today.
3-I’m excited for Toy Story (I just can’t think Tom Hanks would do it if it sucked. I still believe in him!), but it seems like Shrek might’ve jumped the shark. But that might just be what I need to tell myself — we’ll probably take the kids to see Toy Story, but I think they’re too little for Shrek. We hardly ever use our grown-up nights out for movies, so if I want to see it I’ll just have to wait. Sigh. Perhaps 3 cups.
The Keurig is worth EVERY penny. And, you can get k-cups from amazon.com for cheaper than in the store (and EVEN cheaper if you sign up for them to be sent to you on a regular basis). I highly recommend the chai lattes for a sweet treat.
Hi, Shrek the Final Chapter was well done I thought and didn’t ruin the rest of the series for me. I laughed more than my 5 and 8 year old kiddos because as usual a lot of the humor went over their heads. Enjoy it!
1. Love, love, love my Keurig! Can’t say enough good things about it. I buy my online through Keurig. I get the 15% discount and free shipping on orders over $40.
2. I agree with you. Politics shouldn’t figure into every story.
3. I haven’t formed an opinion yet.
4. I think the wedges are cute. I would love to try a pair on before buying though.
I have a Tassimo, which I bought instead of Keurig because I can get the pods at Target for only around 6 dollars a package (16 pods) at regular price, and they go on sale regularly! Its been a MARVELOUS thing in our house. I can have a single cup whenever I want, I don’t have to clean the pot and filters etc every day, and it tastes great!
I’d recommend using a French Press for your coffee. It’s a better way to make smaller amounts (less than a full pot). The only thing is that for a press, the coffee should be ground more course than is normally used in, per se, Mr. Coffee.
Thanks a lot. Now I totally want those wedges and yet, my shoe allowance has already been used up for THE YEAR.
I love how those wedges look, but they’re over 3 inches tall, which is way too high for me to be comfortable. Wedges are way more comfortable than heels though. Get some, just not as high!
I haven’t even see the first Toy Story, so I can’t comment on that one.
Just figured out I can see you better without the reader of which I only use at work anyway because most sites are blocked! Yay for site design and color! Anyway…
The shoes are super cute, but I am a flat on the ground girl too, I’d probably fall or something in them!
Great pic of that WHEELBARROW of which we all seem to pronounce WHEELBARREL!
I’m hestitating on Toy Story and am about Shrek’d out! Too much of a good thing can go rotten real fast!
My hubby has wanted a Keurig for a long while — so glad the commenters are giving advice for finding them on the cheap. I’ll be back later to compile their information!
I’ve been reading for.ever and this might be my 4th comment.
I enjoy my Keurig. I also have the insert (it’s like $15) that lets you use your own coffee — the key there is to a) grind it very fine, like a step or two up from espresso, or the water will go through too fast and the grounds will spill out into your cup and all over your counter; and b) take a used K-cup, cut the top off and take out the coffee and filter, and use that to line the insert’s filter. Otherwise you’ll end up with weak coffee becasue the water goes through too fast.
And wedges are excellent. They’re a great way to get some extra height while not having your heels sink into the ground!
We have a Keurig at work and it is great for that environment. You can even use it just to get hot water for tea or oatmeal. I disagree with the people who say that it is no waste, though… what are they doing with each of the cups after it finishes brewing? As far as I know, they aren’t recyclable. It annoys me that our office creates so much trash for making coffee so I try not to use the pods too often. But! They do make a reusable filter. So if you got that, then it would actually be “no waste.” (Not practical for at work though.)
I use a french press at home and I have a french press mug for travel/work which is awesome.
Costco is the best deal on K-Cups in my experience. 108 for 47.99 and they have a few varieties. Thats also where I bough my Keurig, and there were 75 free kcups w/ it.
I have lots of opinions to share, so here goes:
I would love a Keurig, and it would be really useful for us right now, since I am only drinking decaf and my husband drinks regular coffee. However, he’s a giant coffee snob who insists on home-ground freshly roasted beans, so no Keurig for me. I’m thinking maybe I could use the pregnancy excuse to convince him once and for all, since he’s afraid of making me cry and then he’d have a weepy pregnant lady on his hands.
The whole politicization of everything drives me eternally nuts. I have a hard time watching or reading news lately because of it.
We’ll go see both Toy Story 3 and Shrek 4 probably, because my daughter likes them and having a toddler is an excellent excuse for me to get to watch animated movies at the theater.
I would love a pair of the Toms wedges, but I’m worried I would have the same problem as I do with their other styles, which is that my heel is too narrow and slips out continuously. With the higher heel there’s a good chance I’d injure myself, so I’ll probably stay away.
Finally, I think I’ve been saying wheelbarrow as wheelbarrel my whole life. So embarassing when you realize you’ve been doing something like that! Thanks for sharing!
Tons of people have already commented, but I totally love my Keurig, too. I purchase my k-cups from Green Mountain Coffee because they have a better variety and they have a monthly plan. I never have to think about ordering coffee. But Amazon has a large variety as well. You can also purchase a reusable filter that you pack with coffee. Not quite as easy, but certainly saves money. The kids love the hot chocolae and I keep tea around as well. It is worth every penny
I love my Keurig. And I, like several others have the reusable insert. It is less wasteful and I can make my favorite Starbucks coffee that doesn’t come in a K-cup. As for the expense…I haven’t bought a singe K-cup. Everyone who said that I am impossible to buy a gift for have now bought me boxes of K-cups. It’s a nice simple gift and I have quite the variety now. My Dad even bought me the k-cup holder to sit on the counter.
The Toms wedges…I WANT! Why don’t they make them in a size 12…I am going to go cry now. I, like you, am very much a feet on the ground kind of girl. Then my doctor told me that because of my plantar fasciaitis I need to wear a heel. So wedges are my replacement for flats. I don’t have any problems walking in them and my foot feels so much better. Wedges are the way to go if you want a heel. I say buy them!
I love my Senseo, it is a similar thing, but the machine is cheaper, and the cups are not made of plastic, but are little one cup pads (better for the environment) but the main reason I use it is because it is Dutch! It allows me to drink Dutch coffee in the US. I agree on depoliticising big disasters like Katrina and the oilspill. I believe that both the government and BP are doing their best.
No big opinions on the movies, the wedges are adorable! And I agree about the wheelbarrow, just seeing it made me want to google the spelling…
Keurig = Awesome. Loves mine and great if you are a one cup a morning drinker. If you drink more it can get spendy. Also consider it’s great for making hot water for tea, miso soup, and large bowls of oatmeal/cream of wheat!
Political commentary = completely agree! I suggest you go Galt with the hole political media commentary anyways. turn your T.V off.
Cartoon movies = It seems to me that each generation believes there cartoons were superior to the current generations. Chances are you will feel they have ruined the series. But always remember Shrek and Toy story hold nothing to A land before time, and American Tail! All Dogs go to heaven almost made this list.
Tom Wedges = There bombastic and a great shoe for a great cause. Tell Donnie to zip it and rock them!
Wheel barrel = I’ve got better things to be doing than thinking of a sarcastic answer to this!
I hated the third Shrek movie, so I was not at all anxious to see the final one, but the kids really wanted to see it. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. It was so much better than the third one. I thought it was cute and had a good little message!
* I had a different version of the Keurig. I don’t remember what it was called, but the pricey cost of the cups really evened out. Even if I drank 2 cups of coffee a day, it was cheaper.
* Politics sell, so the news networks make it all about politics. People love an us v. them mentality. A bad guy and a good guy. Right and wrong. And it’s lame. (Though, I do tend to buy into it….way more than I should)
* I like Shrek OK, but I love anything and everything Disney/Pixar. I’m very excited about Toy Story 3 and can’t wait to see it! I, too, thought my toys were real, though sometimes that scared me to death as a child.
* Just looked up the wedges. Adorable. I have a TJ Maxx version in red (with white polka dots!) that, sadly, no longer fit my 50000 years pregnant feet.
* I used to think “windshield wipers” were called “winchell wipers.” I still call them that, sometimes. It’s easier to say.
Happy Friday!
I would really like a one-cup coffee maker but have similar reservations. Also, with my regular coffee maker, if I make too much I just dump it out. The little one-cup cups seem too expensive to just dump out. Also, I like to warm up my coffee by adding a little more from the pot, and I can’t do that with a one-cup. But I’ll bet that if I dither long enough (usual dithering time for new appliance or gadget: 4 years), I’ll get one on 75% off!
Wheelbarrell reminds me of the time I wrote “next store neighbor” and then stared at it and stared at it, unable to figure out why that didn’t seem quite right.
I second the buying the “make your own K-Cup” option. We have a Keurig, and we LURVE it (it was a gift), and the make your own cup has seriously saved us money as Bryan never knows what kind of coffee he likes that day, so we can stick with one can of crap coffee (his chosen fave) and I can have as many kinds of flavored coffees as my heart desires.
Also, they have bangin’ teas and hot chocolate options too. TOTAL WIN.
I have no opinion on anything other than the shoes.
And I love them. You would look fabulous in wedges.
I saw the Shrek movie, with a lot of reservations. It turned out to be really good! The story line is original and all the effects that make Shrek “Shrek” are still in place. I was pleasantly surprised. However, don’t waste your time sitting through the credits for a special ending…there isn’t one :>(
I have a Tassimo (won it on a blog) it is a single cup thingy like the Keurig. I love the convenience. It is expensive. I usually only drink 1 cup of coffee a day now because of the expense (I usually drank 2 prior to the Tassimo). The other con is that I miss my favorite coffees but I believe you can do your own w/the K-cups so that would be pretty cool.
I hate the look of most Tom’s shoes but I love those wedges! Crap…I don’t know if can justify another pair of shoes…don’t tell my husband, ok?
I don’t really know anything about the Keurigs…why not just use one of those smaller coffee makers, like those hotel-room size ones?
I love the shoes too, but:
“I would love a pair of the Toms wedges, but I’m worried I would have the same problem as I do with their other styles, which is that my heel is too narrow and slips out continuously. With the higher heel there’s a good chance I’d injure myself, so I’ll probably stay away.” <–Jessie
THIS. I would have to have some sort of strap going over the top of my foot/ankle to hold the shoe in. If they came in a t-strap, ankle strap, or mary jane style, I might get some.
I’m with you on Toy Story. I know you’ll see it well before I do (on Netflix, most likely)… so let us know if they ruined it or not? Please?
I’m with you as far as not liking people politicizing everything. Any progress our country made the last few years has seemingly been undone with the two-party sniping going on. Not everything is political. And even if it is, like you said, they should focus on just fixing things.
I still haven’t seen Shrek 3, but I admit I want to see Toy Story 3. What can I say? I love those movies.
I’ve never used the coffee pod things with the Keurig- you can get a basket that will let you use your own ground coffee…I wouldn’t recommend it- it was gross. But I bet it’s better with the appropriate pods.
The wedges are so cute!
And I love wheelbarrows!
My parents are such freaks about their Keurig that they have TWO on their kitchen counter (one big, one small) and a third small one they leave at my house to use when they visit.
I completely understand the fear that Toy Story 3 is going to suck. I love Toy Story 2, it is the rare sequel better than the original. Also? I thought it was wheel barrel.
I am thinking I would like one of those Keurig systems. Especially since I am the only one in the house that would use it. Full coffee pots would be wasted here. Also, I think you can get hot chocolate and chai tea. That is like a dream come true for me!
I have had two Keurigs. The first one got smoked by lightning and I liked it enough to replace it. I mainly used the little refillable filter because the K-cups got expensive after a while. The plastic on the filters also breaks, but you get about 9 months out of it before it does. I loved it with the K-cups, not so much with the filter. Also, I don’t think it gets as hot as a regular coffee maker.
I’m not a wedges girl either, but those are adorable.
Love the entry! I have to say I think the Keurig is awful for the environment–all that plastic! I say go with the suggestion of the small pot, or the French press. Better for the world and you can make the amount you want!
-love my keurig
-i’m more middle of the road leaning right, but i absolutely agree
-love the shoes
I’ve bought 2 Keurigs and they both crapped out on me. Personally I’d rather spend $15 on a Black and Decker coffee pot that lasts forever. $100 Keurigs are just too expensive when mine always say “descale” and we do, and they work about 2 more times and die:(
I recently bought my husband the Tassimo and he LOVES it. I don’t drink coffee, but I do love making hot chocolate in it. Mmmmm.
I bought my mom a Keurig for Christmas and it was dead by February. My friend Julee’s Keurig died after about 8 months. We returned them to Bed Bath and Beyond which is where we both got them and they said that that Keurig (the smallest version, about $90) was recalled. I switched to a Tassimo and love it, my mom said the hell with it and went back to the old carafe pot. I would not buy another Keurig. Plus, Tassimo has Starbucks brand cups!
I’m way late to the party, but GET A KEURIG. We got one for our family Christmas gift this last December and it has been worth every stinkin’ penny. We got the fancy one, because we liked the digital display, the timer, the larger cup sizes, blah blah blah. Haven’t had a single issue with it and it makes the most awesome cups of coffee. DH drinks tea, so it’s perfect for us because a pot of coffee would be a total waste. And he loves the tea from it, which is awesome because hes tried tea from other one-cup machines and they’ve never tasted that good to him. Plus their hot chocolate and iced tea and iced coffees are AWESOME as well. I haven’t even been a Starbucks since we got ours. I love it that much. I would give up a lot of appliances before I would ever give up my Keurig.
