Dancing, Pens, Heat Stroke…OH MY!

- The So You Think You Can Dance finale is set to go and my favorites are the last ones standing. Actually, José was my sentimental favorite but I knew he wouldn’t make it to the end. The three that made it? Are my technical favorites. And I’ll be happy if anyone but Kent wins just because I have this weird vibe from Kent that the whole Innocent Good Ole Boy schtick might be a little bit faked. Not entirely, but I feel he’s exaggerating it for the show. And that kinda annoys me. But he’s a good dancer! So…you know…if he wins I won’t be pissed. But, I hope either Lauren or Robert takes the prize. Lauren is probably my overall favorite which is funny because she was no where near my radar when the Top 11 were announced.
- It’s back-to-school time so let’s talk office supplies! I have two new favorite pens. They are both the BiC Triumph, one is the 537R and the other is the 730R (both extra fine) and it’s such a joy because I haven’t had a new favorite pen in years. Unfortunately, they’re relatively new so you can only get them in the basic colors (Red, Blue and Black) that I know of. If I ever see a pack of 10 different colors in those pens? I may die from excitement. LOVE THEM.
- Our a/c went out in our downstairs of our home. I’m calling the repair folk today and hope to GOD they can get over here and fix it this afternoon because it has been reaching over 100° on the thermometer, let’s not even get into the whole Heat Index thing. Let’s just say if you consider Heat Index? It has been illegally hot here. Yet I’m still walking my dogs for one mile up and down the hill from hell at least three times a day. I need my a/c to reward me when I’m done, dammit. As always when my a/c is out I’m reminded of growing up with no a/c (not even a window unit) in my home in TN and just giving up on showers because WHAT IS THE POINT? You start sweating the moment you turn off the water in the shower…defeating the purpose all together. Luckily our upstairs a/c is working overtime so the downstairs has not gotten above 79°, but still, if that keeps going they’ll both be out and THEN I WILL DIE. The End.
- I’m heading to Knoxville this evening to visit my Mom. This is the first chance I’ve had to see her since she started her Chemo treatment 3 months ago for colon cancer. There’s not much I can do to ease the physical challenges of such a regiment, but hopefully a visit from her grandkids will help lift her spirits. Let’s hope. I’m begging them to leave their devil sides at home for the weekend and to only bring the angel half of their personalities. We’ll see if that actually works.
- I do not mind reading about BlogHer on the Feed Reader or on Twitter. It seems a lot of people who aren’t there are annoyed by it. Maybe because I’ve been before so I can get swept up in the excitement even from here, but I really enjoy the silly updates from NYC. Makes me feel more of a part of it all. What about you? Do you find it interesting/entertaining or annoying?

I think the whole BlogHer conversation is annoying every single year (from the ongoing posts for weeks before and after to the twitter/FB updates… yada yada yada) Mainly because both sides (the have and the have nots) bitch about it. The ones going whine about the ones not going and the ones not going whine about the ones going. Why can’t the ladies all just play nice and get along?!
I would love to go but I’m in the UK and the flights are just so expensive – if i’d have the money for BlogHer this year I would have been putting it towards going to Aussie for my friends wedding (As it happens the money I have goes on bills and things like that)
Although I get a little TEENY bit tired of reading SO MUCH (much of it THE SAME) about something I’m not going to, I’m also glad to read about it as preparation/practice for if I want to go sometime in the future. I find I’m about a hundred times more annoyed by the “annoyed by BlogHer talk” talk than I am by the BlogHer talk.
The Bic Triuimph 537R in extra-fine is the BEST! I do a LOT of writing at work, and that pen makes me so happy!
And I am rooting for Kent first, then Lauren. If Robert wins, I will be a bit bummed because I MUCH prefer the other two.
I love Kent! I have loved him since auditions. I’ve liked Lauren since I noticed her in Vegas and Robert has grown on me so I’m glad they are both in the final three. But Kent is my boy. Love him!
I’m going to have to look for those pens.
We have a lot of trouble with our air conditioner, so I feel your pain. I’m so sorry!
I don’t get annoyed by it now… I went last year and afterwards I felt more involved in the thing by reading than I actually was by attending. So maybe that’s why it doesn’t bug me.
What kind of sucked is that bc it was in my hometown last year I had all kinds of other obligations to attend – had a wedding on Saturday evening, a birthday party to hit up on Friday. So I didn’t really get to enjoy the whole conference. Then again, I don’t think I’d travel out of my city to go to it b.c I just can’t justify it… I don’t really put any importance on my blog or really care about it – it’s mostly to keep my family up-to-date on what I’ve been up to so I don’t have to make multiple Sunday calls to touch base.
Since I’m not going and never will, yeah, I wish everyone could come up with something else to talk about. However, it brings a lot of happy to the people who unknowingly brighten my day, so how can I begrudge that?
My sympathy on the AC. We’re whining about the 90 degree weather and 70% humidity here in CO – I’ve done summer in both Memphis and Massachusetts, I know it can be worse… and I’m sorry.
i don’t mind the “omgijustmetapopularblogger!” tweets, or the group shots at parties or the talk about the actual conferences.
it’s the “istillhavetopack” and “firstclassbetterservelunch” and “ihaveblisters, waaa!”
and “wowi’msotiredfromallthefuni’mhavingandyou’renot” posts that get tired to me.
i am participating in #HomeHer10, and having a blast. it’s a fun distraction.
Lauren went to high school with my oldest daughter (Lauren was a senior last year and my daughter a freshman) so we’re rooting for her big time. That being said, if we didn’t have that connection, I would be happy with any of the three of them, but I probably like Robert a bit more than Kent. I feel like Robert has a little more of a twisted vibe, which makes him way more fun to watch!!
I actually thought of your blog the other day when I was in Big Lots. They have tons of really nice agendas and planners (really nice, considering it is Big Lots). I am also a pen/agenda addict. I had to buy any extra agenda because I always want a new one mid school year but they are so expensive. So if you want to stock up, go to your local big lots… 3 dollars.
- Lack of A/C is teh evil.

- I will definitely have to check out the pens
- I imagine your mama will quite enjoy having you and the kids about
- I don’t really mind the BlogHer updates, but I do wish it was possible to filter them out, since I don’t particularly find them relevant. So, not annoyed, just could do without
take care. hope u had a good stay visiting your mum
Re Blogher hoopla: I’m not really a blogger, and as a result I just don’t care. So, I *wait for it, it seems to be an exciting and novel idea* don’t read those posts. In fact, I do that with any post that isn’t interesting to me or in some way annoys me. I know, radical idea, right?
“I have two new favorite pens. They are both the BiC Triumph…” okay that cracked me up. I know you’re talking about different “models” and all, but I like the way u you put sentences together, you’re cute.
The only thing that annoyed me about the BlogHer stream were the giveaways. Made it not fun to try and follow the actual event.
I went twice, and now that it’s up to 80 bazillion people attending, I probably won’t go back. Just too much for little ole me.
However, HINT HINT, Type A Mom Conference is very fun. HINT HINT.
