Human Again
Last night was our night “off” from Beauty and the Beast. Of course, we had a daytime show so it’s not like we had the whole day off. Just the evening. Which was good enough since we had been up at school every evening since last Wednesday. Some evenings past 10pm. One past midnight. In other words? E and I needed that night off just to pick up the remnants of our sanity and put them back into place before this weekend.
The first show was awesome. It wasn’t their official “opening” since it was for the field trip kids, their opening night is Friday. But the field trip kids always have tons of energy, so it’s a good audience. Of course, they laugh at entirely different moments than the adult audiences do. The adults will laugh at the Babette and Lumiere exchanges, while the kids were silent. The kids – on the other hand – thought it was HILARIOUS when Gaston died. I think it’s because he fell to his death, which I guess is funny if you’re a kid. Maybe? Either way – not a point in the show that the cast had practiced holding for laughs, that’s for sure. I saw the entire second act and was just in tears. When Belle shows up at the top of the stairs in the castle in her yellow dress? The little girl in me – who never even got into princesses – just squealed and started bawling. It really is magical.
We had really hoped to get into bed early last night. E and I were that last ones up. I’m trying to get the last bits of some of my framing and decorating projects in place before our entire family descends into town this weekend. We are also having a Chili Dinner Saturday night before going to see E perform. All of these things required me to do something other than go to bed at 7:30pm. Which is what I really wanted to do.
All in all – we’re hanging in there. I’ve barely seen the little ones at all this week but I did get a couple hours with them last night. Nikki starts t-ball tonight, so Wes will be doing hair and makeup with me at the dress rehearsal. That ought to be fun.
I hear he does a mean french twist.

When my younger daughter was in preschool, she was very much into being a princess. She was Belle one year for Halloween, and loved that dress so much, she wore it every weekend, every moment she could.
As she got older, she dropped the princess stuff and become a little bit more of a “jock.”
But in 6th grade, she played Belle in Beauty & the Beast in our community theater program. When the costume designer made her a gorgeous yellow dress, my daughter was just so thrilled and a little misty-eyed.
And I definitely had several teary moments in the audience. Such a great show.
Both my girls love theater (my older daughter moreso), and I have also gotten very involved in the shows (produced a few). I love it.
Wes looks like he’s born to wear hats. Hope you break a leg on opening night!
My teens attend an arts magnet school. The amount of time, dedication and enthusiasm these kids put into their shows is unbelievable. We just wrapped up The Crucible to rave reviews, but the big musicals are my favorites.
Break a leg, Eliah!
I’m totally going to have “Human Again” stuck in my head
I love being involved in a production, it’s quite the emotional roller coaster!
