What You’re Missing…
I haven’t had much time to spend on blog entries lately, with my crazy B&B schedule. I had a night “off” last night and spent it catching up on laundry and dishes and baking and housework. I did all of this instead of writing about any of the topics rolling around in my head. My family seems to care more about clean clothes than they do entertaining blog entries. SELFISH PEOPLE.
I thought I’d at least share the list so that I’ll have something to go by when life calms down next week. Until then? I’ll fine-tune these in my head so when I finally write them they’ll be UBER-awesome.
- I would love to expound on my own insecurities that I’ve been thinking a lot about after commenting on this entry about coming to terms with the number on the scale.
- I want to talk about things I learned recently I may be doing wrong…like packing my dishwasher. Do you load yours back to front or front to back?
- I need to take a moment to rant about clothing sizes and how frustrating it is that I wear 3 sizes bigger in the Target Mossimo brand than I do in the GAP jeans brand. And while I enjoy the smaller size GAP gives me, what is my correct size?
- I’ve been wanting to compile a list of my running/workout gear that I can’t live without. From a specific type of running tights/capris to my favorite socks.
- I’d love to talk about Spring. How I love Spring. I want to write about the flowers and the birds and the pollen which is – for some reason – causing my DAMN EYES TO SWELL SHUT this year.

I have a similar problem with buying clothes. If I want a t-shirt I have to buy at least two sizes bigger other wise the bottom hem doesn’t cover my belly button. (So thats a UK 18/20 rather than a 14/16). Jeans have to a 16 and often long leg (Even though I’m 5ft 2) because otherwise they are more like ankle leg capri pants – what’s going on there lol.
I load the dishwasher back to front
I load mine facing in towards the middle. So, both directions I guess?
Vanity sizing drives me insane. Yeah, it’s kind of nice to see a smaller number, but not when I know I’m *really* a larger size and it just messes up my ability to easily buy clothes. I wish women’s clothes went like men’s, waist and inseam.
I find the less expensive the brand, the smaller the sizes run. I have to buy larger sizes at Target too and it pisses me off. My self esteem doesn’t need that.
I don’t load the dishwasher the same every time it just depends on what items are going in it. It’s a small apartment model so I just look at the pile that needs to go in and arrange things accordingly. Sometimes that is front to back, other times it’s some things in the front first.
It might be more pertinent when you actually do the post about weight but I think this you tube video is awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUTJQIBI1oA It is exactly how I feel about my weight and body.
And I hate buying clothes simply for the fact that you have to try on everything (and rarely does anything fit perfectly). When I was younger and got clothes yearly for school, I was super happy when I found that Gitano made their sizes in short, medium and tall. That helped a lot, but once my body changed after having a baby I’ve never found a size that definitely fits my hips AND isn’t super long, because I’m a short gal.
Dishwasher loading isn’t an exact science, so as far as I’m concerned there is absolutely no wrong way to do it. As long as you’re getting your dishes washed and not melting anything, then it’s all perfectly fine – no matter how you loaded it.
Vanity sizing. Not sure it’s completely true, but I’ve kinda come to realize that if you’re paying more than like $30 for a pair of jeans, the sizing is “adjusted” to make you feel less awful about the cost of them. But the sizing in said $30 (and under) jeans is usually more accurate. At least that’s been my experience.
I’ll be looking forward to a post about your fave running gear. I’ve been trying to get back to running again, but can’t for the life of me find quality clothes that work and don’t break the bank!
I have to go to a “fitting” for a charity fashion show I’m modelling (I’m not entirely sure how I got myself talked into this, but it was mostly because they were adamant about wanting models of all sizes) and I’m hoping I gave the organizers the right sizes and that the stuff I’m supposed to model actually fits and isn’t ridiculously embarrassing
Other than the hassle of having to try on lots of clothes to find something that fits, don’t worry about the numbers. Consider them imaginary numbers. You are the size you are–it’s the clothes that have the problem! Be healthy and be happy and find clothes that make you feel and look good (regardless of the number or letter on the tag). Life’s too short to let a clothing designer have control over your sense of self worth!
Okay, I’ll get off my soap box now.
You are BEAUTIFUL!
I think Martha Stewart recommended enough room so that water can get between pieces in the dishwasher. I try to use that method when stacking. So some of the dishes face in one direction and others in the opposite. I load the big items first, which ends up being more on the left side than back vs. front. I do not believe in pre-rinsing–I think that can start a debate on a blog.
“Loading”? I just sorta toss everything in and make a wish. Ha ha.
Yes, please, on the running gear! So far I’ve only learned that I HATE running shorts. HATE SO MUCH. I have 1 pair of capris from Target, but I think they’re more yoga than running and well, whatever. They’re not shorts.
PS – Hate Target sizing, too. They’re not only small, they’re LAME small. Like, I tried on a pair of skinny jeans in at least a size bigger than normal and the “skinny” part wouldn’t FIT OVER MY ANKLE. Like, how do you diet for your ankle?
Re: vanity sizing…
My mom is an excellent seamstress and every now and again make me a dress or a pair of nice slacks, and every. single. time. she fits me to a pattern, she has to remind me, “this is your dressmaker size, every single thing you buy in stores is vanity sized.” The last time she fit me and it was a dressmaker’s 14/16, I almost broke down in tears. Then I remembered, I was a size 12 when she made me a dress in high school. For reference, I’m a 6/8 in almost all stores and a 4 in some more expensive places like Banana Republic.
I also hate vanity sizing b/c I have such a hard time buying stuff online. My husband can purchase stuff online easily, b/c men’s stuff is always in inches. I wish women’s lines did that.
