The Amazing Human Alarm Clock!
I wake up naturally at 4am. If I don’t? I don’t go to boot camp. Well, let me rephrase that, if I don’t wake up in time for boot camp, I don’t go. I like to be up at 4am (Gives me time to write on this BLAHHHG!) but I’ve slept until 5:07am before and still made it to boot camp. But usually? 4am.
I like to tell people this because it get’s a great reaction. “Really? 4am? Naturally? I wish I could do that!”
But then I always feel bad. Because then I realize it sounds waaaaaay more awesome than it is. I mean, I feel like it’s awesome because it’s like I’m a ROBOT. Somehow, even on minimal sleep, I wake up naturally at 4am…like a human clock…and that’s the cool part. But then I realize it makes me sound like an amazing MOM or WOMAN or something and then I’m like…well…crap.
See, I have two things going for me that more normal people do not. Observe:
First: I have ALWAYS been a morning person. ALWAYS. FOREVER. AND EVER. AGO. So, I have a natural predisposition towards the 4am wake up that you may not have. Even as a teenager, when we had phones attached to walls that would ring and wake up a whole house, I was a morning person. And I would use that phone after I woke up in the morning to call friends. Who were NOT morning people. And neither were their families. Imagine if someone called YOUR house at 7:30am on the weekend and woke up everyone. Yeah. That was me. Even when every other kid my age was sleeping until noon, I was up by 8am, waiting for the rest of the world to catch up with me.
And secondly: I have NEVER had a problem getting to sleep. Most of my friends go to bed, and then don’t get to sleep for hours later. 9 times out of 10 I’m asleep less than 15 minutes after I’m in bed. If I tossed and turned at night trying to just get to sleep like all of you do? There’s no way I could wake up at 4am.
Instead, I toss and turn in the mornings. On the weekends, when I don’t have 5:30am boot camp, I wake up first at 4am and then I go back to sleep. But only for a couple of hours. I’m still usually up by 6:30am because my brain just won’t shut down after that initial 4am wake-up call.
So…I do think it’s cool that I wake up naturally at 4am. Because it’s like MAGIC. Look, Ma! No alarm! But does that mean I’m awesome in any other way but as a human clock? No. I have the advantage of an innate tendency towards mornings and an talent at getting myself to sleep when I want. Two major advantages that I’m sure would make EVERYONE a human alarm clock, when given the chance.
Now…if only I had a natural predisposition towards cleaning toilets. THEN I’d insist on having a statue made in my honor.

I wake up at 4am Monday through Thursday. I, however, am decidedly NOT a morning person, and I’m up until 11pm doing homework then take at least an hour to get to sleep. So I’m essentially spending the week running on 4hrs of sleep. I can’t imagine why my grades suck…
anyway, if you can figure out how to BECOME a morning person, please let me know!
HA HA NO. Yeah, I have a hard time falling asleep. And I cherish my evenings for time alone with the husband to chill, drink, watch tv, snack on adult snacks, play around online, knit in peace… so I stay up probably waaaaay too late. So I’m more of a 7:30 am sort.
BUT, I don’t need an alarm clock to get up at 7:30… i do just wake up naturally at that time! So… there’s that?
I fear that if I did get up at 4, the middle child would hear me and get up as well. And that would be Bad. That’s how he knows its time to get up, you see. He hears us up. He’s got ears like a FOX that one.
I’ve also always been a morning person, and I relish that time to get things of my own done. And like you, I fall asleep like a stone. I’ve already been in the middle of a conversation with my husband when I’ve fallen asleep. He’s gotten used to it, but it still annoys him not to be able to finish a conversation.
I’ve had to train myself to be a morning person. I, too, like to get up at 4:00. Well, OK, more like 4:30 but it’s still way earlier than most folks I know. Yes, I get the same reaction. I always tell them, “Well, you CAN get up at 4:30 too.” They just look at me like I have two heads or something.
My clock is 4:30 a.m. and i love it, too! I like the headstart before everyone else.
Usually I can wake up at any time I want. I haven’t had an alarm clock for two maybe three years now so back then I had to learn to get up or anger the folks with having to take me to school everyday. Back then on the weekdays, I liked to get up at 6 take a shower and then go back to bed until the bus came but over the weekend I would get up at ten or later. That was confused me for a while until I experimented and wanted to wake up at 5 then 4 then 7 and every time it worked. I think it’s a pretty cool trick once you figure out how it works just tell yourself before you go to sleep the time you want to wake up a few times and see if it works.
I do the same thing except I dont have to wake up at the same time everyday, so I just use it on the times when I do have to wake up, I found that I always woke up 10 min before my alarm, so I might as well just not set an alarm, I prefer not to have any light in my room so I love to have my room with no clock.
The odd thing is though I love waking up in the morning it just seems right, but I love to party at night, I feel like im a night-owl/morning-person lol
Last week I was with my friends we got to his house at 6 am, and we were all goin to sleep but i couldnt sleep I didnt feel tired, so i decided to go to my house, and thats a 20 minute walk, and my friends were like wtf now and my friend was like only you would be like “aahhhh nothing like a 7:30 am jog!!”" lol that made me laugh, and it made me want to jog but i was wearin dress shoes.
I would date this girl and she would set her alarm for 3 am so i could drive her home before her curfew i would frequently jump right out of bed and go into song or celebration, and she would be like how do you have soo much energy. I can go the entire day without sleep, easily, and its like nothing different. Even though I guess technically im more of a night-owl if you compare the days i stayed up past 2am, to the day i wake up before 7.
I do love to wake up at 6 am though without anything to do, I usually end up exercising or reading, or doing something hugely productive, also it seems there is so much opportunity at 6am if you sleep till 10 you miss a lot oddly enough.
