Best Laid Plans…

I drew giant butterfly wings on our sidewalk for some cool photos with the kids. Nikki saw the wings and immediately complained that there were no antennae. I grumbled something under my breath and then just said, “Don’t worry about it, just let me take your picture.” She sighed with EXTREME frustration and said, “I guess I’ll just use my arms.” Wes, on the other hand, didn’t quite understand the concept. He rolled around in the chalk... Read More

Thank You, Harry

Thank you, Harry. For being a comfort back in the Spring of 2000 when I needed it most. I came home from a trip to the bookstore having splurged on the first three books in the series because I needed a distraction in my life. I was struggling as a single working mother finishing her college degree and those three books – which I finished in one weekend – brought me the joy I needed most during those anxiety-filled days. Thank you, Harry. For introducing me to... Read More

And The Tooth Fairy Had CASH Last Night! Which Is Lucky As She Normally NEVER Has Cash.

Guess What? WE LOST A TOOTH! Well, we lost a tooth the old-fashioned way. I don’t remember a “loose” tooth becoming so loose so fast with E, but was just a few weeks ago where she was claiming it was loose at school and trying to get it out by throwing a ball at her own face. YES. I said that. She was throwing a ball at her own face to try to get her tooth out. YES. That’s my daughter. That day it wasn’t even that loose. I could barely feel it wiggle.... Read More

Shutting Down

This picture cracks me up for NUMEROUS reasons. Which I need today because I’ve been a little BLAH lately. And do you know why? Because I haven’t stopped eating in, like, three days. That’s the worse part about binging. It makes me want gain weight and lethargic, but it also makes me GRUMPY and IMPATIENT and also…well…a beeyatch. But this picture? HA! It makes it through my bitch barrier no problem. I always feel a tad guilty when I’m having... Read More

A Fun-Filled Productive Weekend

This is the ONE idea I’ve executed recently that I can not directly credit Pinterest for. I’ve had the idea for awhile after seeing it on some design show. Covering canvas with fabric. I’ve been wanting to do it in the dining room because it is a hard-wood floored room filled with wood furniture. PLUS it seats 8. Do you know what all of that added together creates? Conversational echos. It bugs me slightly and I hoped putting something fabric on the walls... Read More

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
