The TV-Addict Runner
Preface: If you didn’t see the insane videos Donnie and I tried to do record our accents this weekend, go watch them now. It really shows how southern I am, and now insane our family is. ALL IN ONE VIDEO!
****************
I do want all of you to know that – while I’m making a lot of time for running in my life as I train for this half-marathon – I’m only eliminating unimportant things from my schedule to do it. Like cooking. And cleaning. I am STILL watching TV. Not as much as I used to, which is forcing me to trim some of the shows off my DVR that I just watched out of habit anyway. Here is what I’m watching this fall.
- GLEE – Come on! I’m totally biased with this show because still love it in spite of the ridiculous season it had last year. LOVE IT. And I’m terribly depressed it’s on a hiatus right now. But let me tell you GLEEKS something. I follow Glee spoilers (WHAT?) (No spoilers here though, I promise!) and if you’re a fan of the same adorable couple as I am, it looks like the November 8th episode might rank up there in the EPIC department. I’m not going to spoil it for you, but if you MUST KNOW, you can Google something like “Klaine November 8th” and I’m sure you’ll find it because the GLEEKS are going CRAZY. (For the record, the original spoiler came from Michael Ausiello – the King of all Spoilers. HE CAN BE TRUSTED.)
- Parks and Recreation – Who wants to be a Pawnee Goddess for Halloween? I DO! Also…who thinks Batman Ben is SUPER SEXY. I DO! And who wants to have their own Treat Yourself! 2011? I DO! This season is continuing the excellence of last season without stopping and I want to make out with every episode.
- Modern Family – The show still has the same things that make me laugh hysterically (PHIL!) and also many of the things that make me roll my eyes. But that’s okay, the balance is still in the favor of FUNNY so I still love to watch it.
- Vampire Diaries – OH MY GOD. Did you watch last week? Even Donnie was like, “This show has only been on for 20 minutes? They’ve packed so much into that 20 minutes I thought for sure it was almost over!” I’m telling you – if all TV was written as well as this show – we’d all weigh 800lbs and never leave our couches. Those writers know how to give us an episode full of twists and turns and there are actors who know how to execute it all. Is it just me or has Nina Dobrev gotten SO GOOD at playing the two Doppelgangers that I actually forget it’s the same actress. They are such different characters that now – I actually forget they look the same. If that’s possible.
- Revenge – YOU MUST BE WATCHING THIS SHOW. It’s my only new show pickup that I’ve stuck with. I love it. It’s like Shawshank Redemption meets Gossip Girl. SO GOOD.
- Pretty Little Liars – I’m putting this on here because the Halloween Episode is this week. I don’t want you to forget! This show is SO BAD but I am SO HOOKED on it. I mean, something is crazy about a show that manages to cast and write a situation that has you rooting for the teacher/student relationship. WHAT? WHY AM I ROOTING FOR THEM? Awful. But Awesome. CAN’T STOP WATCHING IT.
- I do not watch Secret Circle anymore after last week. I was into it for a few weeks but they pulled a twist last week and killed off someone I had just started getting hooked on and I take that shit PERSONALLY. I’m not addicted enough to the show for me to allow them to toy with my emotions like that. So it is officially off the list.
- Castle, Good Wife, NCIS, NCIS LA, Hawaii 5.0 – Now, I still record ALL of these shows. BUT – I watch them in 15-minutes, if I watch them at all. I kinda want to keep up with them because I like them, but since time is limited I fast-forward through most of the episode. If my schedule doesn’t loosen up after the race I may have to stop watching them all together. They’ve all gotten a bit predictable anyway…We’ll see.
Now…just to show you my Running Side too – here is a comparison of the results of the 5K I ran this weekend with last year’s results of the same race. This is beyond believable. I can NOT believe how much I have improved.
I’ll revisit this SPEED topic in great detail another day. I don’t want to take the attention away from what’s important in this entry. TELEVISION.
What are your Can’t Miss shows right now?

Congrats on the running! Two of my friends just ran the half marathon in Hartford on Saturday.
My husband and I love Glee, too. I’m about to google your spoiler… I love Parks and Rec, Mike and Molly, Modern Family and The Middle. Keep meaning to DVR the show AFTER either The Middle or Modern Family (can’t remember the name of it, but it’s about a girl who shares an apartment with a couple of men).
Other than that, I watch tons of reality shows – Amazing Race, Survivor, and all of the Real Housewives (for the typical “train wreck” reason).
Okay had to Google that bit about Glee I couldn’t leave it – that’s kinda exciting in a way – but won’t say any more than that other wise I will wreck it lol.
Loving Castle but waiting for the new series to come out – did Beckett hear what Castle said? Will she just ignore it or actually do something about it?
We’ve been watching the news series of House – I’m half way through Episode 2 so need to finish that before Thursday when Episode 3 airs here in the UK/
BTW well done on the running that is so awesome!!!!
I love love love The Vampire Diaries! I agree with you. I completely forget that they are the same girl. I used to watch her on Degrassi, and that show did not do justice to how well she could act! Last week’s episode was amazing! Plus, everyone on that show is just amazing looking, so that’s kind of nice too!
I watch House, Glee, The New Girl, ANTM, Bones, Vampire Diaries, Secret Circle, Pan Am, and Supernatural… but I am giving up on Secret Circle as well and for much the same reason. I also don’t watch any of these shows when they actually air but catch up with them online or on Comcast.
I’m watching The New Girl, The Office (as much as I love James Spader, I miss Steve Carrell), Parks and Recreation, Bones, Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, Cougar Town (can’t wait for it to start back up!), The Middle, Raising Hope…
oh my goodness, I have so many shows on my DVR it’s going to explode! I don’t have time to watch anything!!!
I still have the entire season of Off The Map and Being Human from the summer. (I liked Being Human so much more than Vampire Diaries, which I gave up on)
My tried and true shows that I always watch are House, Survivor, The Amazing Race, SVU, Top Chef, Hell’s Kitchen, Dexter, Weeds, Treme, True Blood, The Walking Dead. (BEST SHOW ON TV) I don’t DVR Modern Family but catch it now and then.
New shows I’m trying and have seen an episode or two of and like: New Girl, Suburgatory, American Horror Story (AWESOMENESS!!!)
New Shows on the DVR that I haven’t watched yet: Pan Am, Ringer, Person of Interest, Prime Suspect, Homeland. Probably going to give up on Pan Am as it conflicts with other things I want to record. I cancelled Secret Society before even watching an episode because it conflicted with other things and I was hearing it wasn’t that great.
I am going to also watch Grimm and Once Upon a Time when they start up next week.
Shows I plan to get from Netflix because we didn’t watch them from the beginning and I hear the are great are: Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy and The Good Wife.
How I Met Your Mother, Mike and Molly, The New Girl (HOW ARE YOU NOT WATCHING THIS BY THE WAY), 2 Broke Girls, Glee, Revenge, The Big Bang Theory, Community, Parks and Rec, The Office, Modern Family, The Middle, The Mentalist and OMG Revenge.
I am SO with you on Vampire Diaries and Revenge. I’m a complete evangelist for both of those shows. The Vampire Diaries is just . . . whoa. I get so excited to watch it every week and see what insanity the writers have cooked up. And as for Revenge, who knew little Amy Abbott from Everwood could bring the cold-hearted determination to just STOMP on the lives of the people who ruined hers? If they could just excise Eric Van der Woodsen and his poorly written wrong-side-of-the-class-divide plot from the show I would be in heaven.
I’ve really cut down on the amount of tv I watch (totally involuntary) but the other shows I can’t give up watching as they air are Parks & Rec, Community, Fringe, and I’m looking forward to Bones coming back. Did anyone else get into Alphas over the summer? I’m looking forward to seeing that show come back next year.
My number one new show is Revenge. I also like Prime Suspect. My overall favorite show is Parenthood. My top comedy is Cougar Town, and I would recommend checking out Happy Endings – much like Cougar Town it really got better after a rocky start.
8 minutes off your time WHUT?! That is incredible!! AStonishing! Good on you, woman.
I have to make some serious cuts to what I’m recording because I’m recording more hours of television than I watch a week. And a lot of it I’m not loving. Some of it is habit. Glee is habit because the music has been dull and the story lines kind of meh (although I googled and am curious to see that episode – love those 2). Project Runway is so awful but I loved it so much back in the day so I keep watching.
Can’t wait for the Pretty Little Liars Halloween episode! Supernatural is one of the shows hubs and I both love and watch together. I’ve started watching Pan Am and Unforgettable – and like both but don’t love them. Loving Revenge. Modern Family is a fav. Suburgatory – caught it a couple of times…has potential.
I need to share a bit of blasphemy – I no longer have a DVR, of any kind, and there is only one tv in the house that I must share with my teen (and I don’t always decide what we watch)
In other words, I don’t watch very many shows any more
Parenthood!!! BEST. SHOW. EVER. It is SO well done.
Okay, the running thing is BLOWING MY MIND. I remember running the Cotton Row with you some years back (“with you” meaning we saw eachother at the start and at the finish) and you ran a little faster than my pace – and NOW YOU ARE THE FREAKING FLASH. You go, girl!!
I told Bryan I wanted to be a Pawnee Goddess and he said, “But you’re MY goddess” and I think he meant that to be sweet but I was all WHAT BADGE DO I GET?!
Modern Family has been fairly inconsistent for me this season, although last week’s did make us laugh really, really hard.
And I’m TRYING to love “Up All Night” but it’s one of those shows where .. like, people I read and people I know are WAAAY more clever, so nothing there is amusing to me. At all.
You are AWESOME!!!!! I just ran a half marathon on Saturday in 2 hrs 54 min. You’ll be done in under 2 hrs…..simply amazing!!!!!!!!! You are a rock star.
Sons of Anarchy!!! Was that a branch I heard crack…or was it Juice’s neck? GAH!
