Look What I Found!

I haven’t done a Post Sharing The Crap I Share On Facebook lately. It’s not much, it’s basically Cool Stuff From Yesterday…but I want to share! So, you know, HERE YOU GO!

Y’all – bullet journal may be the sexiest video on the interwebs. I’ve been trying out this technique and I think it’s really going to help me (I make lists EVERYWHERE) but I’m struggling finding the perfect journal. I don’t want a moleskin because they’re a bit too big for my purse. (And the smaller size is too small to be functional.) I found a suitable one that may work, I’m testing it out this week. The idea is just FANTASTIC, I just have to find the right size/type of journal to make it functional.

So! Some of my favorite YouTubers (HATE THAT WORD) are making a movie called Camp Takota and they’re filming behind-the-scenes stuff both at Chill.com/CAMP and Grace Helbig’s Channel. I have NO idea if this movie is going to be any good but I am LOVING the BTS stuff. I’m just a huge film/TV nerd anyway, I’m constantly wanting to know how the magic looks off screen. So, combine cool On Set videos with some hilarious YouTubers and I’m totally obsessing. There is a small part of me that wants them to keep screwing things up so the shoot has to last longer. We’re already halfway through right now and it’s totally bumming me out that I’m not going to get Camp Takota videos anymore.

Speaking of Behind The Scenes Stuff…

“The Fault In Our Stars” started filming yesterday and John Green was posting pics on his instagram and it totally made me want to re-read the book again. This is such a weird movie to be excited about because the book TORE MY HEART into a million little pieces. Seriously.

FEED READERS! Since Google Reader is long gone (and I still am SO pissed off about Reader taking away the “sharing” function that I can’t even be MORE pissed off about the RSS reader itself being gone) I have been using Feedly. I’m not 100% sold on it, but it’s working as a replacement. I do like that you can share things on social networks FROM the dashboard of the RSS reader itself. That’s probably my favorite part. And the layout is visually appealing. It’s not too clunky or busy.

But, here’s the thing, I totally was using this Find A New Feed Reader thing to force me to clean out my list of blogs because I was reading stuff simply because I used to read it and I realized that’s not a good rationale. So! Let’s try to improve my Feed Reader experience by giving me new blogs to read! What do you read? Who is your favorite?

  1. That bullet journal looks great. I’m going to have to try it. It looks similar to the Franklin Covey planner I used when I worked, which I loved. It is just too expensive for me now that I work from home. Thanks for sharing!

Speaking of purses, have you tried BorsaBella on Etsy? She has her own website, too. She has some cute styles, all w/ pockets for e-readers and smartphones and on flickr she has tons of fabrics. I have to have a big purse, but she makes a lot of smaller sizes as well.

I don’t know how I will watch that movie. The book tore me up, too.

  2. I was using Feedly as well, but it was glitchy for me, so I switched to Bloglovin. I initially resisted Bloglovin because of the lame-o name, but it is working so much better for me than Feedly. And it has both an iPhone app and a Google Play app (for my Nook), which is key for me.

Anyway, my favorites are pretty common ones…you, Amalah, Dooce, YSP, Big Mama, Boomama, The Bloggess. Oh, I have been watching the videos on Actively Arielle on occasion. She is a local (to me) MSW who leads eating disorders groups and posts about eating disorder recovery. She is an eating disorder survivor, and some of what she has to say is really very powerful.

  3. I like Feedly. It took all of my energy to make the switch when they shut Reader down (I considered just not reading blogs any more at one point!) that I am sticking to Feedly. The only real issue I’ve had is that I have by mistake made like 20-30 unread blog posts look read all at once. I finally figured out what silly thing I was doing wrong and have not done it since. It is good and I like that there are different way to view the materials I am reading and I find it much more user friendly than Reader ever was so I guess that is a good thing!

I guess I stay away from many of the big name blogs because they kind of drive me crazy. I want to read a blog written from the heart and not one written because of a sponsor or always featuring a give away or someone who makes their life seems so amazing that mine just sucks in comparison. I like real!? With that said, The Bloggess is a fun fave and All & Sundry are two of my favorite big name blogs. Followed by a fine weekend, Hula Seventy, Out For A Run, Folkoric, Little Postcards, A Conversation On Cool, Gordo Byrn, and Gina’s Skinny Recipes. A few of these are simply photo blogs. I love photos. I think photos tell a story often without words. I have quite a few food blogs that I follow but Gina’s has been my fav and I have actually tried her recipes and they are easy and great! Gordo Byrn is an interesting person. He’s a (tri) coach and has a family and he has been in high powered positions and I really enjoy his male perspective on parenting and life. There are others but these are the ones I gravitate toward… well and yours – I never miss reading your blog – seriously I saw that not to butter you up but because I totally hear you and I get what you are saying and I am nodding yes and so that makes it good to read. Oh one more Gorillabuns too. I like her.

  4. Love it when the comments are as great as the post! Can’t wait to dive into the suggestions your’e getting because I’m in the exact same boat feed-wise. Using Feedly for lack of something better, adjusting, cleaning house. I really miss the ability to search in the feeds though.

Tried to watch that journaling thing, made my head hurt.So complicated.

And OMG totally lost in the BorsaBella store the above commenter posted about.. if I don’t surface send someone to come looking for me!

  5. I am using the Old Reader and I still miss googlereader…RIP google reader. My sister just shared a new blog with me: camppatton.com and I love it. Mom of three under three and she’s hilarious and stylish.

  6. I switched, but had problems with it when google reader shit down. So I jumped camp to bloglovin and I really like it. So I’m happy in my little corner of the Internet.

    1. Haaaa oh OMG I just saw that auto correct. That should be *shut down* but then… Shit down is pretty accurate too. *giggles*

  7. I’ve been using Digg Reader and really love it. I tried Feedly, and it was okay, but not great. Digg Reader is simple, clean, and gives me exactly what I want in a reader. I might even go so far as to say I like it even better than Google Reader (don’t hate me).

Do you read Jennie over at http://www.shelikespurple.com? She has a great way with words, and her posts about parenting tend to hit the nail right on the head.

  8. I’m really torn about The Fault in our Stars movie. On one hand, I can’t wait to see it. On the other, I’m not sure how I’ll manage to see it in public. The book WRECKED me.
