I love this photo because it looks all artsy when in reality I took it while we were riding the Kiddie Train at Spring Park in Tuscumbia, Alabama.  Read More

This guy popped up in our yard this week. Even though the temperatures dropped back to freezing. I can appreciate his urgency, I want Spring here already too…dammit.  Read More

I’m weird about trees. There are several stories I could tell of emotional attachments I’ve gotten to trees. Sometimes it’s one specific tree (The 100+ year old dogwood at the botanical gardens) and sometimes it’s a certain type of tree as a group. In this case? Japanese Magnolia. One of my favorite professors in college got very upset when the school... Read More

Photo: I (heart) books.

My friend Sarah posted this lovely photo of pages from a book turned into a heart. I immediately knew I’d be stealing the idea as soon as possible. However, this was WAAAY harder than I thought it would be. Either I’m missing an obvious trick or this is just a giant pain in the butt. Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
